RME Interface Performance report!

Hi all,

quite a few of you guys have pm'd me to report on the forum how my new set up is performing...and after a few days testing i can now tell u.

18 channels of audio loops, all with at least 1 fx on each channel, including reverbs and delays.
Ran the program for 3 hours.
Latency was set at 4ms.

cpu reader...23% awesome performance...

I can report that after checking the System crashlog, there has been NO errors whatsoever....im absolutly delighted at this purchase...

Ditching the M-Audio Audiophile into the bin was by far the 2nd best thing i did when i decided to start playing live, behind buying this 17" PB of course...hehe

For 150 quid you get nothing but problems and glitches and sometimes a good performance....but for £650 quid you can buy the perfect soundcard for the MAC on OSX.

If you are sick and tired of all these posts about firewire problems and audio dropouts, just put your money in your pocket and buy the RME Multiface with PCIcard.

Being an RME novice here though, i would be interested if there are any downsides to the unit at all, i dont really expect there to be but hey..its a computer...

you did indeed...i believed you..but i also believed that a big company like m-audio would make decent drivers...

a few poeple in the store today were telling me that there is a problem arising with the core-audio when using ableton and that might be one of the causes of the problems.

Aparently, its a bigger issue in japan than it is here....anyone know anything about this??

make sure you flash-update the card using the "fut_mac.gz" updater.
It has important issues with the midi.
but be extremely careful with it.

Hi there !

I also bought a RME for the studio and I have to admit it is the best audio/midi card never tried !

I am with PC and Win XP but it rocks ! I can record 16 tracks at once (8 analog and 8 numeric via Adat) and no drops at all !

The only shame was about installation .. my RME was already flashed and the CD given with it was for the old version of the RME ... so not possible to install the card with the old drivers ... if you have no net connection in your studio you are in a bad position !

can somebody try my bug of moving warped clips ? 19 views but no response at all ! thanks !

i just got one these for pc winxp and boy does it boy does it sound sweet!
Way better than the old MOTU 828 which I am now selling. The highs and lows are much better defined, and recording on this thing sounds really crisp aswell!

And installation was painless and quick, unlike probs I had with the MOTU...

yeah guys...im really suprised that more poeple do not really know about this unit....maybe the price is out of reach of a lot of poeple...but if your serious about your music, then money should never be an obstacle...or i wouldnt have bought an andromeda 2!!!

i also noticed that situation with the flash update as well.....though the strange thing was with mine that when i tried to install the new flash version i downloaded, it told me that my card was up to date??
so either i have the absolute newest stock model or i have downloaded the wrong flash version..

what version are you talking about??1.5???

Hey Elemental, can you expand on this a little? I bought a MOTU 828 mkI about 18 months ago and have had a few problems with it under Win2000 (it seems better now I'm on XP). Do you get better latency and less glitches with the RME? Am thinking about converting over to RME so any advice is appreciated.

vince : same for me about the flash ... it is because now the new units are already flashed ! same version as you !

the only audio card that gave me the same sound (quality) was my incredible aardvark 20/20+ (that I am now selling if somebody is interested). The gain of aardvark is louder than RME and the sound quality is the same ....

The only reason why I choose the RME was the fact to record 16 tracks at once (with the 20/20+ maximum 10 tracks)

I dont care about 96/24 bits for me it was only about number of simultaneous tracks at recording ...

just to tell you that aardvark is as good as RME about sound quality !

How does your system perform when Multitrack recording? I was getting Digital death sounds

after a second or two during playback after recording more than 5 stereo channels at once into Live from the Multiface.

This was only really a problem when transferring my older Music into live as I've no real need to Multitrack record on a day to day basis

Oh and I hartily recommend the Behringer Ultragain Pro 8 as an expander for the Multiface

Well, I just checked out the second hand price of MOTU 828 MkI and they're only going for about £150!! I paid £670 for mine about 18 months ago!! Looks like I won't be switching just yet.

Hi Vince.
I have appreciated reading your posts and hope that you might be able to advise me. I am looking for a "cost effective" audio/midi interface to outfit with a G4 PB (1.5 GHz/1Gig RAM/OSX Panther) that will be running Live 4. I need to slave the PowerBook to my iMac G5 which hosts ProTools LE (interfaced by a Digi002). The signal path needs to come out of the PowerBook as an analog stereo out, which will then hit my Mackie board and will be processed by timing sensitive send/return delay and tape echo processors. The processed signal will need to hit the Digi 002 in near perfect sync to ProTools running on the iMac.
I don't think that I can afford the RME Multiface and Cardbus, but I need a Mac friendly interface, with a simple analog i/o configuration, that will maintain perfect midi sync to exernal apps and offfer as little latency as possible.
Are you (or anyone else that might be reading this post) familiar with the HDSP 9652?

your welcome mate....the hammerfall DSP is good.....the latency on all the rme stuff is amazing....im down at 3ms and it triggers my mpc2000xl forever with no loss in sync. very reliable....

im not too sure about the other soundcards out there that i have not tried, im hearing the new edirol is sweet though....
