Propellerheads Remote Implementation
Hi Guys,
I've spent the last 12 hours trying to get my new Korg Microkontrol to 'behave' with Ableton.
To give some contrast, I opened up my copy of Reason, and everything just worked with ZERO configuration. It was dynamically and intelligently mapped.
It's a joke just how poorly implemented MIDI control for Ableton is considering Propellerheads have figured out how to do this very well and are offering companies free licenses to use their remote technology:

Please Ableton make the call....
Mad Props to the Props for showing others how to do it, but for also then giving it away for free.
A rarity in today's make a quick buck for anything we can society

Re: Propellerheads Remote Implementation
How do I map the keyboard so it is dynamically assigned?
(Changes what it is mapped to when I change to another track?)

Not sure what you mean here.Richard Ellis wrote:How do I map the keyboard so it is dynamically assigned?

By track do you mean song or do you mean an individual track within a song?
Also do you mean the keyboard.. as in the notes on your microkontrol or were you refering to the microkontrol as a keyboard.
Do you know about the blue hand?
What specifically are you trying to achieve? there are many ways of working with the microkontrol depends on your workflow to some extent.

I use the kontrol 49 and understands what he wants.
In Reason when attaching a kontrol 49, you don't have to do anything to preconfigure it all you have to do is go to the controllers page and click auto dectect controllers button and Reason will find it (most of the time it will find it without even doing this). Once done the controller will be premapped to many important Reason parameters like controlling the mixer (faders, pans, sends), changing sequencer tracks, playing and stopping the sequencer, changing device presets, tuning/adjusting Redrum drums, programming the synths, the controller mappings will dynamically change each time you select a device (which can be done from the controller itself). If you don't like any of the premade mappings you can easily do a remote overide by right clicking a control and doing a midi learn function, (you can also disable the overide if you want to go back to the old way). There are also a few unassigned buttons just for you to make your own mappings so you can have for example complete transport sequencer control, auto quantize on and off control, metronome precount etc.
In Live the kontrol 49 is not only harder to set up (must manually define the inputs and outputs which isn't too hard though, but then you need to find an old Live template file, which does Lives premade mappings), the premade mappings are very basic, all you really have is fader control (which gets out of sync if you move tracks around), Rack macro control, and the ability to change the MSB LSB parameters for external synths. These mappings aren't dynamically mappable like Reason's implementation as well. I think this was because Live doesn't offer native support for some controllers (Korg is one of them). This makes it harder to get that deep level control. I believe Reason offers native support for this controller and that what makes it works better. Live does offer native support for some controllers like the APC 40 to get its deep level control.

jlgrimes - You got it in one.
When you move from track to track in Reason (by track, I mean a channel with an instrument or effect on it), the microkontrol LCD displays remap instantly to give you all the important info about that track - the track name (eg subtractor synth), parameter names (filter resonance, attack, decay, etc) and the amount for each parameter. If I move to another track (eg Maelstrom Synth), all the LCD's on my Microkontrol switch to the that synth's most important paramters.
I have yet to see ANYthing else like this in the music world that works so well.
However, upon reading more from their site, I think this poll is redundant. I think the free license they are offering for ReMote is actually for individuals / companies to develop ReMote codes for REASON, not for other companies to use this technology in their DAW's / software...

ok I get what you are saying...
With live 8, I believe you can midi map selecting of devices, which will give you the blue hand so you can control that device using the encoders. No feedback in the LCDs though, from what I remember.
I was able to dump the correct settings to my microkontrol, using the dump button when I set it up as a controller.
If you are on Mac there is always LCXmu which gives you mackie control, which works pretty good.. you can select and control devices including LCD feed back.. for example.

same problem here.
using live 8's mapping mode, i cannot get it to receive controller data from the microkontrol.
how do i work around this?
