Trying to set up Ableton 7 with external sound card to DJ

Hi, I need some help please. Im trying to hook ableton 7 up through my external sound card so I can listen to my cue track in my headphones while the other track is playing through my stereo.

Im using a brand new Sony vaio ns20e laptop. I have also downloaded asio 4 all which I heard is the right driver to use. When I try and set it all up with channels 3/4 for cue and 1/2 for master, Ableton pretty much freezes and hardly works. If I click back to my internal sound card with just 1/2 available it works fine. Even if I use the external sound card with just 1/2 available it works fine through my stereo. But with just 1/2 you cant cue and play a track in stereo at the same time can you?

I think I might be doing something wrong with asio 4 all.

As you can probably guess im new to Ableton. Please help as its really annoying just mixing without being ableton to use my headphones.

Hi nastyrazz,

which exact external soundcard do you use? In general you need a soundcard with at least 2 separate stereo or 4 mono outputs.
If your soundcard hasn´t got enough outputs, ASIO4ALL MIGHT be a workaround, but it won´t work with all cards.

Hi Ryan,

that soundcard was unfortunately not build for DJing, you need a soundcard with 2 stereo/ 4 mono ANALOG outputs.

Hi Ive been looking around and found a maya44 usb soundcard which is reasonbly priced. Would this do the job?
