Europe: 449 .- Euros

am i getting sth wrong over here?
I used to be with it, but then they changed what "it" was. Now, what I'm with isn't it, and what's "it" seems weird and scary to me.

UK price = 462 euro

nasty aint it.

I think it's even worse in Australia, where it costs the same as a luxury car.

YES,

this is really a huge difference.
Up to a point where shipping it from overseas
would be an option....

Odds are you have government and shipping costs to blame. I doubt Akai is looking at one continent over another and thinking "I'm gonna rob these people blind!" so much as tariffs, VAT, and shipping costs (to get the product to that part of the world) all adding up.

Sorry, but no.
I don't think that Akai are spending £158 per unit on postage !

if I order a single APC40 from the USA, and pay postage plus import duty and sales tax, then it is STILL a lot cheaper to import from the US than buy it in the UK. After all those costs I would still save around £75 by importing it! And bear in mind that I have to pay individual postage and import duties which are much higher than Akai would have to pay. (shipping a container is cheaper per item than shipping one item)

Word! JRR give you an extra 10% with a coupon (that everyone can claim) including 19% VAT over the APC AND over the shipping (which is how it goes) it would save about 100 Euros!!! But then you have no warranty and who wants that? (Well you do but you will need to send it back to the States) So go lay down and get fucked up the arse!

surely it has to be to do with the numbers they ship to the US?

and nobody has ever given a shit about Australia's measly 21 million population, and rightly so really

But don't we all just order them off the internet these days anyway?

I'm reasonably sure the UK prices are higher because they're so hard to come by here, there's only been around 2-3 major deliveries as far as I'm aware, and even larger music companies like PMT struggle to secure them.
Some stuff, and some other stuff. Honest.
Currently on a huge and mostly pointless promotion drive, come play:

The USA has about a third of the population of Europe at the very most, so that doesn't make sense either.

I think like has been mentioned, they are very hard to come by anywhere in Europe at the moment, so I guess nowhere has been able to get hold of enough to drive down prices (Plus demand outsripping supply I'd imagine). Logic 9 has already dropped by £50 and it's not even been out a week.

Yes, and for all the countries in the EU "common market" they are to be treated as one continuous country . So there should be economies of scale when shipping to the EU
EC Treaty wrote: Article 7a - EC Treaty (Maastricht consolidated version)
Article 14
<snip>
2. The internal market shall comprise an area without internal frontiers in which the free movement of goods, persons, services and capital is ensured in accordance with the provisions of this Treaty.
The common market is a stage in the multinational integration process, which, in the words of a Court of Justice ruling, aims to remove all the barriers to intra-Community trade with a view to the merger of national markets into a single market giving rise to conditions as close as possible to a genuine internal market [see case 15/81]. It is worth noting that the Treaty establishing the European Community ignores the concept of the "single market".
here is the territory of the pseudo-country whose 'internal market' the treaty covers
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Member_Sta ... pean_Union

I think the population of the EU is about 830 million

really? I thought it was roughly the same? isn't it round the 300 million mark for both? Oh - except the EU beast had a growth spurt recently, didnt it.

either way, population may not necessarily equate to size of market - or at least perception of the market in the Akai upper echelons
