Hey, I work for music shop, I hear this every day cause i'm tech support staff, so please trust me on this.
Anything by soundblaster cannot be used for serious or even semi serious music applications I'm affraid to say.
The latest cards don't actually sound too bad, Its just they all have problems with latency, echos etc. Its a driver thing, they just don't seem to be able to perform very well, even creative's 'asio' driver.
Go for an m-audio delta audiophile 2496 £59, trust me you'll never have a problem again!
The campain to stop creative marketing their cards for audio starts here!

Get these 3rd party drivers for low latency ASIO action for the Creative Live and Audigy sound cards.
