this might be well obvious but its only just clicked for me

i'm using drumracks more and more recently
and i like to layer drums hits with multiple drum sounds on one pad
i was dragging the samples onto one pad to make a multi
but couldn't apply separate effects to the individual drum hits in multi mode
its really been annoying me

then my brain started working again
i made one of the drumrack pads into an instrument rack
now i can add as many sounds to the instrument rack as i want, apply effects to each sound individually if they need it, and play all the samples from one pad

pretty obvious but i've been scratching my head for weeks over this haha

you can set your default template in the preferences but you can also start with a clean factory template.

Very good tutorial. This is what beginners need to follow.

an Abe chimes on on the latency of Live's effects.
[mid] wrote:Hi there,

the AAS instruments introduce the latency of the set CPU buffer size.

Compressor and Limiter introduce the latency of the set look-ahead. Gate has 1.5ms. Erosion has 5ms.
Reverb introduces 8 samples of latency. The other Ableton plugins have just a few samples of latency.

Aren't all the mentioned latencies automatically compensated??

Picked up a proper cool tip in a magazine recently curtesy of Crazy Baldhead:

When mixing, instead of mapping a controller to the volume level, insert a gate with the threashold mapped to the controller so that instead of fading out the signal just gets more scarce...

uber cool tip for a Live re-install and Live packs...
enTRAP AG wrote:I have a way on a clean install. This is for Windows at least...
When you install Live, BEFORE YOU LAUNCH IT FOR THE FIRST TIME, put all your LivePacks in your DefaultPackages folder. Mine is here:

C:\Program Files (x86)\Ableton\Live 8.0.4\Resources\DefaultPackages

Put everything in there. When you go for the first launch, go make a sandwich and walk the dog and then mow the lawn and come back. Live will install them one after the other automatically and you don't need to be there to click Install for each one.

It's not going to speed it up, but you aint gotta sit there and click Install then OK for each one.
