CPU 65% and up Audio Cracking

Post by CHARLIE! » Wed Jul 22, 2009 10:47 pm

All the time ive been using ableton I cant understand why this happens. The CPU meter is around 65 70 but the audio is cracking and skipping. If the CPU is not maxed out I dont understand why I should get glitches in my playback.

Can anyone help?

65%?? I get it at about 40 - 45%. Well, actually, it depends on the buffer size(s). The smaller the buffer, the earlier the crackling starts. I do get reasonable power out of my system I believe. Live is certainly much more CPU hungry than most other DAW's but most other DAW's don't warp every single clip by default. I suppose it's the prize you pay for Live's unique 'elastic' treatment of audio. What does annoy me a bit is that the CPU test in the prefs is of very little guidance.

yes, 65% is normal for glitching

just change your eyes so that 65% looks like 100%

it's your buffer size. If you increase the size of the buffer you can probably go higher then that. Personally I can't wait to see how PCIe soundcards will improve this. E-MU 1616M PCIe is due out already, but the waiting continues.

Same for me on a similar spec system ... Pain in he proverbial .. However one good thing it really helps me stay focused and keep my track count down :) .. But yeah .. gotta try and see the positive!
