eating meat is unhealthy? c'mon, you know better than that!
why do vegetarian threads also bring out conspiracies? generally veggies and conspiracists are too highly strung and need to lighten up.
I do avoid most pork though, it's a filthy animal. I also substitute turkey for red meat when it works in a dish.

besides, pork is the main meat consumed by Okinawans. Those buggers are centenarians. Of course they're not eating bacon and they are boiling out the fat, but it's still pork, or is it?
The younger generation of Okinawans have rejected the traditional Okinawan diet, which among many other ingredients, consists of pork,---sorry to burst your bubble--- and have instead opted for a fast-food filled diet. So they are fat because they eat a western like diet. Research a bit deeper than a two paragraph wiki and you will find a more detailed description of their diet. Obviously they are not stuffing fistfuls of pork every hour, but they have been consuming it for centuries and have been quite healthy while doing so.Kodama wrote:scott nathaniel wrote: +1

Wow, enjoy your first by-pass.
That is the new Okinawa diet.
The traditional diet:
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Okinawa_diet
"People from the islands of Ry?ky? (of which Okinawa is the largest) are reported to have the longest life expectancy in the world. This has in part been attributed to the local diet, but also to other variables such as genetic factors, lifestyle, and environmental factors.
Generally, the traditional diet of the islanders is 20% lower in calories than the Japanese average and contains 300% of the green/yellow vegetables (particularly heavy on sweet potatoes). The Okinawan diet is low in fat and has only 25% of the sugar and 75% of the grains of the average Japanese dietary intake.[2] The traditional diet also includes a relatively small amount of fish (less than half a serving per day) and somewhat more in the way of soy and other legumes (6% of total caloric intake). Almost no meat, eggs, or dairy products are consumed.[3]
An Okinawan reaching 110 years of age has typically had a diet consistently averaging no more than one calorie per gram and has a BMI of 20.4.[4]"
"After long ranking No. 1 in life expectancy in Japan, or near the top, Okinawa's men have plummeted in recent years to No. 26, a spot that has put them ignominiously in the bottom half of Japan's 47 administrative regions. Okinawa's women are still No. 1, but they too are almost certain to slip over the next decade, experts warn.
The fall has coincided, not surprisingly, with Okinawans' emergence as Japan's fattest people. Perhaps equally unsurprising is that waists have widened as Okinawans, ruled directly by the United States from the end of World War II to 1972, have, of all Japanese, most closely adopted the American lifestyle of cars, suburban malls and fast food.

got a source for that? in many countries pigs are setup below the latrines to eat whatever falls their way. a friend of mine grew up in Mexico like that. pigs are predisposed to eat feces. I'm not even going to get into a debate about which animal is treated worse.ThrowAway wrote:Actually, farm raised chickens and turkeys injest more of there own shit than pigs do.
