Is this a good Mac

Post by grok » Sat Jul 25, 2009 4:59 pm

Hello

I want to buy a new Laptop, but there is a little voice in my head, that's pointing me towards a Mac instead of a PC. So I have an opportunity of buying this Laptop; MACBOOK PRO 15" 2.40GHZ Intel core 2 duo 4.66MHZ SDRAM I,ll also will have the licenses of Native instruments Complete 5 and Ableton 8 that are installed on this machine. Its a good deal (1200€),but is this a fast machine? I want to run Live on it,some loops , play a few Vst's (most likely Reaktor) and do some real-time sound manipulation from the guitar player. All this with a playable latency,is this possible with such machine?
Some advice would be welcome,
Thanks
Peter

the machine is absolute fine...

and after a few more live8 updates, you will be screaming.

and the price for getting live8's license and komplete 5's lisence with it... WOW!!!

just check if it looks rough treated in that case you might need to change the HD, if it got a lot of knocks, been thrown around a lot... but that is easy and for that money no problem at all, i'd say.

Yeah, if you want malware, viruses( not the analog kind), crappy interface, and everything that converts users to MAC in the first place...

I use a Macbook Pro 17", 2.16Ghz, 2Gb, Core duo and it's still a monster (looks like your machine is faster than mine).

Thanx to all of u, for the fast reply. I'm a little bit excited , my first Mac, just before I turn 40 (for some people it takes a long time to get smart). Gonna pick it up on monday.

YES IT IS
I'me so surprised about the workflow with Mac. It took me about 45 min to install all my software and external gear. Last time it took me a day with my laptop.
All is just a breeze to work with, no more annoying Windows messages (windows dedected new hardware/ I had to reinstall my motu ten f******* times )
On the other side, I had my HP laptop for 5 years without any major problems, he even survived 1 glass of beer and a glass of wine (must say the glass of wine was the killshot, after one houer he started to smell like gluhwine)

Good and Mac should not be in the same sentence!!! unless that sentence is... PCs good, Macs bad!

is this one of the new (unibody) machines? 1200€sounds actually pretty cheap, if so.

yet, i find any laptop-musicproduction without an external soundcard, impossible.

just enough to fiddle a bit on the sofa, but no mac or pc laptop off the shelf these days is capable of acceptable audio in quality or in latency. (imho)
