I was wondering if it would be at all possible to have a genre / bpm dropdown combo box near to the tap tempo box.
This could be a prefilled (user-extensible) list of genrer names with their respective lower<and upper normal values. So if I wanted to put together a lo-fi track I would have some idea as to accepted norms and suitable defaults.
The list could easily be extensible by both Ableton and thrird parties alike.
Example:
<xml dec>
<ableton>
<genre>
<name>Beat 1</name>
<low>50</low>
<high>79</high>
</genre>
<genre>
<name>Beat 2</name>
<low>65</low>
<high>90</high>
</genre>
<genre>
<name>Beat 3 (My Beat)</name>
<low>65</low>
<high>65</high>
</genre>
</ableton>
