Live 7, Akai EWI USB, M-Audio Oxygen 8, newbie. Use all?

Post by jventola » Sat Aug 01, 2009 6:46 pm

I have an M-Audio Oxygen 8 midi keyboard controller, which came with a special edition of Live 6, since upgraded to 7. (Thanks, Ableton.) I just got an Akai EWI USB, which comes with Garriton Aria for controlling the sounds and assigning them to up to 4 midi channels. I am using ASIO drivers.

If I don't run Aria, I can run Live with the EWI as midi input using the instruments in Live. But I cannot use Aria and Live (or Band in a Box) at the same time. So there seems to be no way to use the Garriton sounds in Live. I have heard about Midi Yoke, but I an not sure if that is a solution or if I need something else. (There's an interesting Youtube demo in Italian where the musician creates a Spaghetti Western soundtrack using Aria, but he doesn't show how he records the sounds and puts them together.

I have not tried to use the Oxygen 8 keyboard and the EWI in Live. (Obviously, I can't play both at once, but it would be nice to be able to switch easily for different clips.) Can I set it up so that Live sees both devices? How?

Sorry if these are elementary questions. I am a newbie here. I read manuals and used the Search function online, but they I remain baffled.

Thanks.

you've got it, midi yoke.

I use Band In A Box with Live fairly often, route the midi from BIAB out midi yoke then into Live with midi yoke. it's nice because the instrument options in Live are better than the system options.

I assume Garriton Aria is like BIAB, I'm not familiar with it.
