Why no OSX Firewire audio problems in other apps?

difficult mate...i wish i could give you sound advice on this one...but i have never trusted any of the others enough to use them to say yeah or neay....

Maybe the new edirol's are cool? dont know the model number offhand...
Also, the usb quatro is solid for adam jay.....

Even if they fix those issues with the fw410 i wouldn't trust it in a live situation.

hey there,
i have a g4 powerbook and have been running live without incident for a few years. in august i bought a firewire audiophile soundcard thingy and have noticed a lot of problems. is this what everyone is talking about? i tour a lot and have never once had anything crash. since i bought the audiphile it has crashed so many times. the cpu starts jumping all over the place, the tempo changes, everything staggers. it happened last night and they had to play a cd while i was restarting my computer.
can anyone help?

unfortunatly marc there is only one solution, get rid of your audiophile, they are total trash on mac with ableton.

you have obviously seen all the other posts about it, so you know you are not alone...

as far as a solution goes, if you are totally serious about your music, there is for me only one option.

RME Multiface with Cardbus. £600 +

not cheap, but the professionalism in a soundcard your music deserves....

ask around about reliability...

i could play 1 audio track on audiophile, with 1 fx and i would get dropouts and problems...

with the multiface i can have 25 audio channels or so, with fx on each, and i have ran it for more than 4 hours solid to test it and i had not a single problem, nothing in the crash log whatsoever...

if you dont want to just take my word for it, please search the forum deeper...you will find the answers are the same....

You know this really does suck... this interface, the Solo, feature-wise, is perfect for me. I couldn't stop grinning when I brought it home last night.

These glitches that appear once I push it 30%... I can take it back to the store if I do it within a week... would you advise me to do this, get my money back and wait a while?

Second time this week I feel like ditching computers for music. Hmm.

same fx for me... i liked the idea of a firewire device and trusted the thing because the was bundeling the shit... what a waste of time and money... and even worse... it killed tracks

Odd thing is, I've got about 70-80% CPU use now with iTunes and Adium and Safari etc. running (according to top), but I'm playing MP3s back through the Solo with no problem... Does this mean it's an Ableton problem?

For me, it's a Live thing. No problems with the, errr, demo version of DP4.1. Damn.

Its probably booth... live 4 is far from perfect..and the m-audio driverws dont act good anyway... change the samplerate on your clockmaster and you see how "good" the m-audio driver is handling such a standard situation...

yeah, it seems inconceivable that m-audio and ableton cant sort it out as they are closley linked in terms of business, but that seems to be the case...

my advice to all...ditch m-audio and firewire for Ableton Live.

just to jump onto the 410 issue. I haven't had any problems so far, except trying to record into audicity. i worked out if you set the output to the laptops output and record with the 410 is works okay- except with a little digital static when you press record.

The other thing is, three times i have accidently knocked the firewire cable (lightly) and the computer makes a static noise and shuts down? It's so scary. Is this an maudio thing or firewire thing. It freaked me out coz the laptop isn't mine and i thought i'd completely fried the thing!. he, he.

its a firewire thing .... its not the most secure connection in my opinion, and the next time you do that by mistake you could very easilt fry your ports......not a good thing really..

im not using any firewire on my laptop now...too dodgy....if you listen closely to your usb ports, you can also hear a small digi static charge....thankfully these are not too powerfull..

btw... how does the RME hammerfall connect to a laptop if it's not through Firewire or USB?

I'm using PC and a firewire 410 but on reading these problems with macs and firewire, I am seriously thinking of changing to the RME to stop the dropouts I am experiencing.

it uses a firewire - cardbus cable supplied, but does not use firewire protocol...it uses its own protocol and therefor is totally secure.

just buy it man...its the solution to these audio problems....
