Copying/Cutting Automation

Post by ScottV » Tue Aug 04, 2009 5:38 am

Is there a way to copy/cut (all) automation in LIVE 8? I remember you could do it in previous versions but I seem to have to re-automate an instance I duplicate all over again in this version.

Maybe I should be more clear. I'm trying to take a part of a track that I have added automation to and make a identical copy elsewhere in the mix. I can copy the audio (or midi) but the automation does not copy along with it. Am I missing something here?

add an automation lane to the track from which you want to copy the automation, select the automation you want to copy and copy/paste it to another track.

By right-clicking the envelope point in the arrangement track, you are getting a pop up menu with options for clipboard operations over the selected envelope. It might not work for you immediately eg for some reason Envelope clipboard functions might not be available at once - I tried several times before they appeared in the pop up menu..

Hope it helps,

I'm pretty sure just folding the track up in arrange view and duplicating it will duplicate all automation in the given selection

Locojohn, that's what I've been doing but if I have a lot of Automation on several different filters then I have to do that method for all of them... not very time savvy method.

Android, I tried what you suggested but no dice.

Anyone? It can get quite annoying copying automatons one by one. Let's say I'm doing a remix and I want to keep the automation in a certain area intact but move the verse to a different area of the song, I don't want to move ALL the automation piece by piece. Please someone point me in the right direction.

There's a checkbox you check and uncheck to let you copy automation or not copy automation when you move / duplicate clips in arrangement view.
that's what you need to look at
I slipped into a daze, whilst I was there I heard the most startling music, it was at once familiar and alien, reassuring and unsettling.

Thanks for the reply. Where would I look for this check mark?

Ahhhh... Lock Envelopes. Thanks for the tip.

For others looking for this, you can find it in your OPTIONS tool bar.

Thanks, I was looking for this too. To note, in Live 9, there is a padlock icon in the upper right corner that is usually colored in the arrangement view. If you unselect it, you can copy and paste everything including the automations. Same function, just a little easier to get to.
