anyone used beatlookup & lucifer to compare?
anyone used beatlookup & lucifer to compare?
I keep thinking about getting lucifer but I dont want to drop cash on a discontinued/non-supported plugin, but every new sample I hear of lucifer has some stuff I really like.
now the real issue is that I just bought Komplete 5 on the blow out deal, I've been saving Reaktor for the last program to learn as it is the most complex, I went through kontakt, massive, absynth, FM8 and the piano library's and got a good vibe for what all is there and just started building my first reaktor ensemble a few days ago.
now the real question is this, has anyone here used both lucifer & reaktors beatlookup?
what are the differences is what they can do?
does one offer more/less variety's of cut/glitch/warp style FX?
really it comes down to simplicity and playability, Reaktor can be overwhelming in its complexity and depth but seems infinite in its potential, lucifer seems more out of the box playable so to speak, and I like what I hear in the lucifer demos more than what I hear in the beatlookup/moldover demos.
so can anyone here give a hands on comparison between the 2 of them?

I have both installed and always go back to beatlookup. It's just easier. I don't really have a need for all the drawing in of automation thing in lucifer.

Re: anyone used beatlookup & lucifer to compare?
Absolutely, i modified beatlookup to have 8 jump points so it could match lucifer, the jump points will on beatlookup however only play a beat of audio as opposed to lucifer which continually buffers audiop allowing any length.... Lucifer wins for vocal phrases whereas the functionality of Beatlookup is more than addequate if beats is your thing....
Glitching wise you could with some work set up a number ( i got it to 4 ) of stutter racks that sounded really good, on the other hand the way that Lucifer can run many different sizes of cut-up, it's hyper function (whereby it filters through the turn of a knob different speed settings of repeat to give a fantastic build up effect) is unrivalled and you can use it's bounce or gate controls to totally destroy the sound that enters the plug in....
I've never used the drawing of automation and haven't even started to scratch the surface of what lucifer can do, but then it does what it needs to for me!
Beatlookup though has the best sounding reverse, and gives a pretty good turntable stop effect if you can map the speed to a midi control....
If it was my money then i'd be paying for Reaktor! But then if it's about time then Lucifer is fantastic out of the box.....
Best of both worlds... Get both!
Cheers

lucifer does tend to make little sense to me and I'm the type of person that immediately reaches for crazy shit like alchemy whenever I can. something about its interface just does not want to connect to my brain
Re: anyone used beatlookup & lucifer to compare?
Do you have any links to lucifer demos??

The steven vankoff demo of the Apc40 uses Lucifer heavily, as does mine....

Re: anyone used beatlookup & lucifer to compare?
so in terms of options of effects, reverse, scratch, stutter, re-arrangers, bit crusher etc... beatlookup has more/less or the same as lucifer?
if I wanted automated effects envelopes and the ability to jump around a group of them can beatlookup create/use them?
thank you very much for the feedback, already having reaktor I was planning on starting there first but being brand new to it and never having had the chance to get hands on with lucifer I still have a ton of questions.
are there any differences in output quality - does one occasionally pop or crackle where the other does not? that kinda stuff you know.
which one is easier to customize midi control & response?
off the top of your head is there any one thing that really stands out to you as unique about either of them, like does beatlookup have 1 or 2 really outstanding things that lucifer does not have, and in reverse, is there anything in lucifer that beatlookup cannot do?

Re: anyone used beatlookup & lucifer to compare?
I was typing all that and you guys answered half of the questions there before I hit the post button.
I think I will drop the $99 for lucifer and just have the options, hell I may ditch my entire current fx & beat repeater setup to use just these 2, we'll see what happens, thanks everyone.

Re: anyone used beatlookup & lucifer to compare?
Lucifer is pre-mapped making it easier to start with, albeit it'll take some work to get more than the standard effects...
BLU is a royal pain in the arse to get anything changed on but it's ultimately more configurable and i found the sound to be very impressive, Chris List did a lot of work on the mathmetics to get it sounding so good...

Re: anyone used beatlookup & lucifer to compare?
As far as sound quality goes, beatlookup is completely unusable when Live (any host really) is slaved and crackles and breaks up terribly, regardless of buffer size. Lucifer handles this like a champ.

does everyone with BLU experience this same issue?
