Multiple selectable loops in one track

Post by Minklet » Fri Aug 07, 2009 3:14 am

I apologise if this has already been asked, but I can't find anything on here, or google.

Anyone with Serato will know what I'm on about here. You can create multiple loops (up to 9) on the same track and jump to them at any point whilst playing. Is it possible to do that in Ableton? I have a lot of instances where I want to play certain parts of a tune and I don't have time to, nor is it even possible to create a new loop whilst playing out live.

If it isn't then the only thing I can think of is to have multiple copies of tunes with the different loops on...which is completely unfeasible considering the number of tunes I would have to do this for. I don't want to create edits as this takes away any fluidity to my set.

well i'm not a dj but i'd say the ableton way is to have multiple clips, each with different settings. they all reference the same audio file

as far as being unfeasible, it would be possible to save all the clips into the browser as an .als file. that could be dragged into a track - but it could be a problem if for other reasons you are bound to a set # of tracks (controller mappings or something)

??

Hmm... the idea of referencing the same audio file and having different clips might be doable, I just don't want to have to have 4 clips for every track, 5 already have some intense obsession with organising my files anyway, this'll make it worse! Regardless of how cluttered it will make my library view

Cheers

Edit: Ive just realised what you actually meant, which I didnt realise was possible. My controller is already going to be full anyway, so actually I think your idea would be possible. How exactly do I do it? Duplicate each clip, create the loops, save and then the next time, just drag the als file in instead of the audio track?

not hard drive intensive, they all reference the same file.

visually cluttering, perhaps

I'll post a pic in a second..

see how it can appear as just one line in the browser? but if you want to, you can unfold that .als - first time, you will see the track - next unfold level you will see all 5 of the clips, so you could have access to them individually if you want

this is just an idea, of course. you can do whatever works for you
