+1 for simple chromatic tuner to toss in an audio effects rack that is easy on the eyes to view when you play live

there a freeware 1 that uses the onboard mic but is not tied to the sequencer., not the most ideal setup, i'd like one i can insert directly on audio and softsynth in ableton, to use it to tune samples and lopped waveforms etc.

New to Ableton. I'd also like a tuner, but having played around with Spectrum a bit, and seen the peaks made by my instrument playing a note, I'd like something even better: I'd like the intonation of each harmonic to be noted. This is helpful for instruments which can be "out of tune with themselves", so you can really see what's happening to the whole sound. There are tuners which do this, such as the 12-wheel strobotuner (http://www.strobotuner.com/index.cfm?category=72), but they seemed to be designed for instrument makers, and are very expensive.

I'd also like the interface to make it easy to read, even on my 13" laptop when view from several feet away. Being able to adjust the range of the X-axis would help. I find the tuner in eg Garage Band to be too small to read while playing, I'd like it to be 5x bigger.

+1, a tuner would be very useful.

i am starting to think there is a reason that there isn't one. it seems like it would be a no brainer for a piece of software geared at least partly towards live performance. in the meantime, what is the best free, lightweight vst/au tuner for mac os x?

the reason is that its one of those features for live 9 which wont work at all once it gets released.

More +1 for a tuner. I've been waiting for a couple years now for what should really be a very simple thing for Ableton to do. I mean, we have a frequency analyzer, how hard would it be to port the code to a simpler interface so I can tell if my guitar is in tune? :!: :!: :!:

PS -- For the curious, I've round that Tune It is a pretty good free tuner. I'm using it as a stand along program on my Mac. It works pretty well. I might try the plug-in as well in a few minutes. I'll report back if it works (I'm using the VST, so...)

Nevermind, I used the AU (the VST refused to show up, maybe it's because I'm running Ableton 8.x and Snow Leopard?) But the VST works just great. I put it into a device chain and started tunning my bass, and it worked just fine. So, there's an option for you.

+1

It would be great to see a tuner among the audio effects in Live 9; maybe with an option for bigger size (for people using it on stage) like the one available for spectrum.

It would really save a lot of time and I'm sure it's something pretty easy in terms of programming. I've tried many of the free VST/AU options that can easily be found online but they seem to be ultra-sensitive to the point that they are useless. The needle/indicator just jumps back and forth too fast in order to get a decent reading. A problem that I've never had with any of the hardware tuners I've used.

That's pretty cool but it still wouldn't beat having one within Live itself (IMO).

There are some tuners available for free as VST or AU plugins, but I think it's a waste do have to fire up a 3rd party plug-in to keep your instrument tuned.

I want a tuner too. :-( Trying to tune a homemade vocal sample is HARD. Is this a first world problem?
