Anyone has musical experience with Remote Desktop?
Anyone has musical experience with Remote Desktop?
I'm currently thinking of using the windows remote desktop feature
to control my Desktop PC from my Laptop for a special task.
The Desktop PC in this case runs Deckadance and gets fed by Timecode
vinyls from my decks - all the audio in/out gets processed here.
the laptop runs the Desktop as remote per W-Lan.
So i can control Deckadance at my decks wit my laptop in one
corner of my room, and the Whole program and audio in/out runs
on the dedicated Desktop machine in the other corner of the room.
makes sense?
has anyone experience with remote desktop? latency, usability in terms
of realtime control?
THX

Re: Anyone has musical experience with Remote Desktop?
there such huge latency (about 4096) when you set system device created by rdp client as your soundcard in settings.
another things is good for using.
possibly you are need apply this path http://www.golod.com/2005/10/enabling-m ... tion-2005/
It possibly also for W7. google it.

Re: Anyone has musical experience with Remote Desktop?
you're referring to Audio latency ? that would not be the case cause i just want to use the laptop as remote for Deckadance controls.ddr400 wrote:there such huge latency (about 4096) when you set system device created by rdp client as your soundcard in settings.
Audio in/out runs exclusevly on the Desktop machine.
Re: Anyone has musical experience with Remote Desktop?
got the remote working via TightVNC which is pretty simple.
But theres a massive visual delay. the commands and mouse action
got thru pretty fast, but graphical respons is a pita.
Anyone knows how i can speed things up?

yes, i'm talking about aduio. graphics speed is perfect )m:o wrote:you're referring to Audio latency ? that would not be the case cause i just want to use the laptop as remote for Deckadance controls.ddr400 wrote:there such huge latency (about 4096) when you set system device created by rdp client as your soundcard in settings.

you can use audio redirect for system sounds (for example) and use your sound card for programms.

The RDP and VNC protocols were not designed to do what you want. They were designed for simple systems administration tasks that don't require any real-time video response and syncronization.
You probably need to find a proprietary, dedicated, remote video system to do what you describe.

Used cabled ethernet. Ive used a VNC setup at times to control a DAW from the playing position in another room.m:o wrote:got the remote working via TightVNC which is pretty simple.

Wireless is half the speed of standard ethernet 100Mbps, so you can get a speed bump in the video refresh just by cabing from laptop to desktop. Put in gigabyte (speed not the brand) networking gear, and vnc becomes nearly like using the target pc. Theres always going to be some lag in metering etc, but for basic remote control this should work fine.

Re: Anyone has musical experience with Remote Desktop?
I control my Windows XP audio computer from my main Linux box via RDP through a gigabit ethernet connection. I don't route the sound through the RDP channel, but out of my Delta 1010 and into my mixer. I get no perceivable audio or visual lag. The only RDP problem I'm experiencing (that I know of) is a quirky mouse acceleration bug that makes it very difficult to make fine adjustments to parameters in Ableton as values change too quickly. Whether this is a RDP, Ableton or Linux related bug, I don't know.
This works well for me, but I am in the same room as my audio PC. I used to use TightVNC, but then Windows wasn't catching certain hotkeys, like CNTRL+ALT+DEL.

Your banana face freaks me the fuck out, m:o.
Just thought I'd mention that.

Awkwords: The mouse speed bug is really annoying for making fine adjustment (or even your hearing health
if the volume shots from medium to full load..). For the visual lag, i think i will go with the ethernetcable
route.
thanks so far guys!!
