meh!
It was a problem the day effects turned into a style.

I don't get it, what happened to letting the original songs speak for themselves. I guess people get caught up thinking if they aren't moving a fader or tweaking a knob, they aren't DJing.

One of my favourite parts of a set is when I get things gelling nicely, stand back for a few seconds and actually take in what I've created. If it can't sound good without you touching anything for 20 seconds, maybe it just doesn't sound that good...

Great way to look at it, I definitely can understand where you take that from.
My fascination with effects is just because they sound so damn fun sometimes, I'm not so great with music but I try not to be discouraged by that (i'm a drummer turned "synth player"?), I like making things sound like what I would want to hear and sometimes it just needs the effects. May not be what anyone else want's to hear.

But yeah, it is satisfying to make something very minimal and be happy with what you've created by yourself. Gellin' for sure.

the Abes should overhaul it, maybe a dBlue Glitch type of device, the Mac kids can finally join that fun. it would give people a pseudo-turntable effect too.
Ha! Yes, exactly what i've done the handful of times i've used Beat Repeat. If i want to get glitchy i'd rather do it by hand - you get much more control that way.

no
please do explain, I'd love to hear your opinion on Beat Repeat. have you ever actually used it?
BR is a tad boring compared to the competition yes but racked up it can do nice things..
its basic features make it too static, though the Auto Variation parameter can bring some life to it..

I think that essentially BR was designed to interact with, not just to drop it on a track and have instant audio mangle mayhem like DBlue..

one thing that is quite unique is you can set the repeats to Gate mode.. audio will only pass when repeat is triggered..
I use this alot on a send.. drop a BR on a return track, set it to Gate mode, put an audio effect(s) in front of the BR..
other ways to do this is to rack up some BR's, all with different Interval, Grid and Offset settings, all with different audio effects..
not the same as Dblue but really fun to play around with..

you can do wonderful stuff assigning beat repeat and echoes to a wiimote.

not sure if it is so wonderful to listen to, though.

Oh yes, so much better than proper beat matching.

A lot of it is slice to midi reconstructions and not beat repeat. No monomulator, just creative mapping and NativeKontrol.

Ever heard of Aphex Twin, Squarepusher or Prefuse 73? They started my infatuation of the "beat repeat" or "loop roll" and "glitch" sound.

just one example of many. I mean the dudes stuff is okay (not for me but it's pretty good for what it is) but I'm so tired of hearing people beat repeat stuff up every 8 bars.

sorry, just ranting..

I went back and listened to your songs so I could come dawg you about it... but I liked them! Good sounds, could use a bit more variation/beat repeat  but, that just IMO. Good stuff.

It won't sound good by just dropping it onto a track... much like any other effect plugin.
