Classical music

Post by Kent_in_CO » Fri Aug 14, 2009 8:32 pm

I'm sitting here listening to the soundtrack to "Cosmos," the awesome oldschool PBS space series with the late Carl Sagan. Along with some outstanding tracks from Vangelis, which I haven't heard since I was growing up listening to this album on vinyl, there are some excellent classical tracks.

If you dig classical, what are some recommendations for further listening? I like emotive stuff, like Dvorak's New World Symphony, Pachabel Cannon (even though it's now a wedding cliche), Vivaldi's Four Seasons - as opposed to the more turgid, stately sounds that evoke a sense of people dancing around in a 18th century royal court. If that makes sense.

As a side note, it's interesting to listen to classical tracks from a producers' point of view. It's hard enough getting 10 tracks to sit well together; imagine recording an orchestra and making it sound like one cohesive whole; pretty sweet.

Oddly enough, classical music seems to be flavour of the month on the forum: there's been a few threads on this recently.

Here's one to get you started: http://forum.ableton.com/viewtopic.php?f=1&t=120839

Is that acronym sanctioned or are we getting a little out of hand here?
