Which MIDI Controller should I purchase?

Post by nsinclair » Sat Aug 15, 2009 1:38 am

Hi, I don't know if this is the right section of the forum, but here goes...I'm starting to use my Ableton not only for production, but also for DJing. I wanted to know which MIDI controller would be best for me. Here's what I need: I want to route effects to the controller. I want the controller to have at least 5 or 6 buttons (to turn the effect on or off) and then at least a couple of knobs per button (to control parameters of the effect that the button controls). Hopefully my post makes sense. Which controller would be best for this? By the way, I'm using the Korg Zero4, which has midi mapping, to control the 4 tracks (like a classic dj mixer) and mapping an EQ 3 to each channel to control the lows, mids, and highs. I just need an extra controller with some buttons and knobs to control effects. Thanks for the help!

Just saw the Behringer BCR2000. Looks like it could work. Anyone have any experience with it? Anything better?

Just bought a BCF2000. pretty cool device, i will be using to DJ. I would rather have the BCR2000 for effects though. Seems like a good buy.

I use a BCR2000 and it's awesome
but then again , I don't DJ so I can't vouch for that.
I manipulate my loops live and use the bcr to control parameters of my effects
check out my blog for a couple of tips there for midi controlling

I use a BCR as my EQ and FX unit, with various knobs and buttons set to do cool stuff.

I use 4 channels of clips when I DJ, so the entire left hand side of my BCR is set to do stuff just to those channel's FX and EQs, then the right hand side is all globs stuff like filters.

As I have an APC40 I do most of the cool stuff with sends and loops on there just for convenience, but the BCR did the job perfectly befroe I got the APC!

also, for ~£100 they're absolutely spot on!
Some stuff, and some other stuff. Honest.

Yeah, I would love to get a Jazzmutant Lemur, but don't have that kind of cash sitting around. picked up the behringer for 120 dollars brand new, thats about all i could afford. thanks again everyone...

well nobody bit on my little "joke"

bcr is probably the single most-used controller -

you should enjoy it!
