Ok, I was disappointed. Too many story elements, too convoluted, moved too fast, too jerky (don't sit close) too cliché in spots, no elements of terror because of the fast pace and the sequel set-up was somewhat weightless.

Robocop was more entertaining in the comic book sense. It hit "the marks" as I was expecting that kind of campiness. His family was murdered and the bad guy got it in the end, yada yada - great. I was expecting no camp at all in d9 so the fast pace gave it the forced feel I guess. Maybe that was the budget talking i dunno. d9 was cut more from the Alien movie than robocop in the cinematic sense. Though robocop had more in common as far as the message. I'm sure i ruined it more than the makers Expectations are a bitch

Robocop was freaking awesome IMO! Hit all the fun targets etc.

Anyway, I never have my hopes up anymore, movie making is pretty dead lately.
Though "Let The Right One In" (swedish vampire romance with all sorts of great metaphors!) was really really really good! didn't expect that at all.

Depends on how freaky the girl is. It is morbid at times. Without giving the plot completely away it's about a picked on little boy who befriends a little girl who just happens to be a vampire. It's a horror romance of sorts, but it addresses multiple issues within that framework, it's deep without trying, best kind of deep IMO.

It's a sick statement of our times that that other lame ass vampire movie (can't remember the name?) is what the US is into, and that they're going to remake it for US audiences, and kill it, just like they did La Fem Nikita, The Vanishing etc.

Just came back from District 9... what an awesome flick. Even the wife loved it

It was so refreshing to have a movie like that without it 'happening' in NY or even in the US at all. Bravo Mr Jackson!

one of the best scifi movies in years. the best since sunshine - thats right i said it! deals with complex issues and not watered down "let go to robot heaven" bollocks.

and it only cost $30 million to make. eat that mick bay.

Haven't seen it yet either, but honestly I can't see it as having less of a plot than Independence Day or Starship Troopers. Starship Troopers was good, but Robocop was that guys best work IMO. <-- more of a social commentary in Robocop. I don't have to agree with the 'message' of a movie to think a message makes it a better movie, example would be Henry V, (Kenneth Branagh version), England acts like an aggressive tool IMO and wins etc. but the reasons for the aggression and the reasons Henry is willing to go there are clear. I think some people get turned off to movies where the 'politics' of it don't match their own. That's not my thing at all, I would rather see a great movie making Stalin into a likable character than a bad movie painting him out to be the paranoid genocidal maniac that he was.

^^^ Not trying to read into anybodies bad review of the movie, I could easily agree that it's a bad movie, just saying the plot might rub some the wrong way.

I agree 100% except I wouldn't be as generous about Starship Troopers which IMO was basically "Friends" or 90210 in space.

I watch a lot of movies. Basically one a day. 10 trillion dollars of special effects don't mean shit if the movie has a lame story line or plot.

I would rather watch a low budget piece of crap movie shot in one room with a good dialog and a great story line than I would a no brainier like Independence Day.

The absolute worst trend in surreal tension movies is the novelty approach. Like for instance what the Blair Witch project started with the movie being seen through the cam corder. I cannot believe how many crapo movies come out these days. Some of these Westerns and Slashers shot on video rather than film are just a puke fest. Wooden acting, horrible story line, cheap video toaster effects, (glowing eyes) who could ask for more?

Although it will be no LOTR, Jackson doesn't make "bad" movies. There is always something there to like even though Meet The Feebles was definitely pushing it.
