I would have thought people would have listened and "judge the software" for themselves. Lets hope that is not how you were attracted to Live, based on what people said about it.Tone Deft wrote:fuck the mature users. I do applaud your mature response.
it's a strong statement to post on a DAW's forum that it sounds worse than other DAWs. people will read statements like that and judge the software accordingly. it's a judgment on the bread and butter of the company's quality profile.
.
My statements are not intended to bash Live but to let my opinion be heard with so that if there is consensus, the DAW that we love so much will be better off for it and eventually so will us all.
It is easier to prove that what I am saying is not "rubbish" than to prove what I perceive when I listen to a DAW's sound quality.
Also, a company must earn their "bread & butter" honestly as they would like to be portrayed, or is Live a con artist's game? I know that it is not.
In fact Tone Deft, you should really examine the statements you make they are so pathetic. Live does not need any body to beg for a clientele..they are good enough to earn it, and indeed they have. They could still be better off without people kissing up to live instead of disecting the software from a user point of view. Live is not perfect, but as long as we continue to show up the imperfections we find, it will pretty soon be near perfect.
Bye folks see you on another topic.
OT. Congrats to the Lightning Bolt, 9.58..whew!

I AM a MUSICIAN. Also a producer, engineer and occasionally do mastering work, with 23 years of experience, various qualifications and diplomas etc.
Cubase, Logic and Live SOUND THE SAME.
And they null raw, unprocessed audio in a null test.

Or..what you actually mean is that they should sound the same, however in reality they all sound different and there were countless blindfold tests done to prove that.
Really mean it this time...see you all on the next topic.

Link to these tests or FAIL.
I'm thinking you're just trolling because you're not actually saying anything useful here, just stirring the fire. Ok, we get the point that YOU think there's a problem, but you don't substantiate your claim at all. You're the one slinging shit, so the burden of proof falls on you.

Because quality music come before quality audio. There's no such thing as the best audio and there are many other things that quantify quality or "best" with ease-of-use and convenience being two of those things, and they do make the sound too. Put "OK Computer" on a 128 mp3, It's still amazing right?evon wrote:knotkranky wrote:no, it's about music. Based on all the unbiased comments..Live sucks in comparison.
Speak to the guys that make hits..guys that know how to make sounds pleasing to sell millions.
Lets face it, that definately is not Live's forte.
What the big record makers don't get, is frustrated at gear. It simply isn't used if so.
Facts are, Abes does not cater to that click, but hits can be made on just about any medium.
So why not use the best sound/audio available to make the music?!
I don't use live for the quality. I use it for the Ui. Obviously ableton is riding fast and loose on that philosophy, but for you, me and plenty of others (but not everybody), it's a bit too much. Add (for many of us use to other apps) the sub-par stability/reliability factor and you start affecting the convenience and ease-of-use which negatively loops back over abletons great Ui.
It only has to sound "pretty good" and flow "pretty well", but i'm afraid "features bloat" and its subsequent ever growing punch-list will keep that an impossibility for me and plenty of others. (but fortunately for abes, not everyone)

No SHOULD (sound the same). It does. In the words of Yoda - DO OR DO NOT DO - THERE IS NO TRY.
If it doesn't sound the same it's because you are setting one or the other up differently. Or Warping, as described by others.
I use Cubase, Logic, Sound Forge and PTHD regularly as well as Live. PTHD is the only one which sounds slightly different, due to it's integer fixed point conversion (48 bit) instead of 32 bit floating. Sonar and Reaper are 64 bit, but still SOUND the same, because the differences are virtually inaudible (your dog may notice a slight difference).
Like I said before, Pan Law can also affect the sound minutely if you find the same pan law in Live as your other app, or make them the same you will notice the difference. Logic and Cubase default to -3dB AFAIK. Changeable to -6dB or 0db.

I see no good reason for either of these products to exist.
Oh, and can everybody quit whining about a problem that doesn't exist and go make some music? That's where I'm headed.

Re: Lives sound engine argument again ...
I've just done a totally scientific test of Ableton's audio engine and the good news is...................
My cat thinks it's the dog's bollox!
Personally, I'm confused because cats and dogs don't get on.
Reading between the lines I think my cat thinks Live sounds shite.
But! He's never used another DAW in his life..........
What I really think is that my cat doesn't like my toons.
