Copy autosave

Post by Belkin » Wed Mar 11, 2009 11:52 pm

hey all
after my track was broken... (because my eletricity was broken to0)
i think will be good if in ableton will be auto copy save.

just add new property to audio section Save copies _
0 = dont save copy
any number large than 0 will save number of copies

for better manage set versions new folder should be created Versions and it will save copies at every Ctrl+s

so user will have some versions of his set.

its not first time when i need recover some my set. some times i have created powerfull bass drum and want more better but its go to be shit and i need restore it from some version and i have no it) if i forget to save it.

sorry my english is bad) but i hope you understand what i mean.

and as developer i think it will be simple just put one more save to your save function and save to folder current copy;)

yes please. infact id like to have a dropdown menu for undos, like wired has.
or even better, a modular undo like houdini 3d has. basicly it keeps N amounts of undos per device so you can go into that saturator and undo it 5 times to get that sweet warm sound, then switch to that compressor and undo it 10 times, because you know that that setting sounded good but just not with the current setup. make it a rightclick menu per device, and put a main undo on the master edit menu that undos all. basicly like the undo layering in photoshop for the main part, but also per device. or track. or both :D

Yeah, I always save different version numbers. It would be great if Live had an option to do it automatically.

Hi,

As I answered to Belkin in another thread, there is no "auto-save" feature in Live, but, the "Save a copy" command in the Files menu is handy to save versions: it will save the set in the Project folder, with a unique name, and you'll keep working on the same set, the original one.

Hi,

I understood the wish. I was only answering rutgermuller in case I could help improving his workflow with what we currently have.

Bump
So yeah +1 on the Auto-Save fuction being incooporated into Live in future editions. It would help prevent threads such as: http://forum.ableton.com/viewtopic.php?f=1&t=114762 - although I could have prevented it myself ;)

The trouble with auto save is that it auto saves your mistakes too.

There is no reason that I can see for Ableton to not have Auto-Save.

Cubase has been doing it for 10+ years, and no one's computer has exploded deadly acid yet.

Have the option to Auto Save a copy/revision x amount of minutes.
