Just playing samples with NO timestretching, etc.
Hey All, I've been playing with the OS X live demo for a while and I can't figure out how to just play a straight sample without being forced to make live attempt to time stretch it to the 'correct' length.
Basically, I just want to import a sample as-is , I don't want live to mess with it at all - and then I want to choose the point in the sample at which it loops.
Can I do this?

Yes, an absolute must
phrenzy, Ive been messing with the demo for a few days as well, and I haven't found a way to do that either. LIVE could be awsome if I could record or import audio to be played as is (no stretch/compress), without that ability it's practically useless to me. Even though LIVE is designed to be as much an instrument as a sequencer, I and many others will probably only use it a sequencer.
For example, I'd like to be able to import an acoustic guitar track recorded in Pro Tools at 97bps, set LIVE'S tempo to the same, start draging in drum and keyboard loops, and then let LIVE do it's magic to sync the loops to my audio. If I want to record a guitar solo into LIVE I should be able to tell the program to play it as a "one shot". I know you can do this in ACID, it's a must for LIVE as well.
I don't know, maybe it's a European thing, they're way more into electronic instumental music then we are in the states. Although the real-time remix concept is cool, I really just need an ACID-like composition tool for the mac.

Then again, if you guys over there proportionally contributed a bit more audio software to the pot it would help. I don't know, maybe it's a European thing

playback at original tempo without time stretching
in case nobody\'s figured this out, here\'s the way to import a loop and play it at its original tempo without timestretching, i thought of this a minute ago, tried it and it worked. first...create a new live set with no loops in it. now, before you import anything, set the master tempo to the tempo of the loop you want to import. then import the loop. if you look at the loop in the wave editor, you will see its original tempo is now correct also. if you don\'t set the master tempo before importing the first loop, your loop will be assigned the tempo of live\'s master tempo and time stretching will occur. i hope this helps a lot of people who want to use live the same way i do in my band with other instrumentalists, etc. now if only i can get the funds together to buy the full program! i\'m still drooling over the demo! if all of you already know how to do this, please pardon my pretense, i just wanted to help out...take care!
P.S. great program Ableton! thanks!

Not yet, but it will be coming in a future version for surephrenzy wrote: Hey All, I've been playing with the OS X live demo for a while and I can't figure out how to just play a straight sample without being forced to make live attempt to time stretch it to the 'correct' length.

Are there any other solutions to this?
hi,
I've been playing with the demo of Live and have also been frustrated by not being able to just get a sample to play as is without timestretching (I like to use noise things which don't have a tempo).
Someone posted that if you set the master tempo before importing anything, that works. I guess that may be OK a lot of the time, but is there really not another way?
Anyway, generally a nice, creative bit of software.

(using the 1.5 beta)
Pull the clip into the clip pool. Select the Clip View editor. Change the tempo (upper right side of the Clip View editor) to the same tempo as your track.
It will now play untransposed.
From here, you can select your loop point as you like.
Admittedly, it's a hack. But it's worked for me...
