Neb, get Zebra.

I've tried Twin and it's a very nice synth and very different to Zebra. But looking at your current synths, Zebra wolud by far fit better into your arsenal. I would never buy twin for one reason. I already own sylenth1. Although twin is more flexible, they have a similar sound character. Twin and sylenth1 both have that warm, squishy, ripping sort of sound with pleasant filter overdrive. Zebra is soooo much more versatile. It can do those sounds as well, but it takes a bit more work than with sylenth1 or twin, which is why I like to have sylenth1 around. It's just so easy to get that sound. But Zebra does so much more it's not even comparable to either.

I would suggest listening to these mp3's to see some recent sound examples of what Zebra's capable of:

The 2.5 update is looking great as usual. I'm using the beta and has some nice improvements but he's still working on more. Amazing free updates out of Urs. He just never stops improving it.

Twin has a superior modulation system and GUI, but zebra has far more versatility as far as modules and routing goes. I think it sounds better too. I'd go for zebra, if only just because it also comes with a killer FX module in the works called Zebrify.

Holy crap! Thanks for posting the question, Neb - it made me check out the Zebra demo (finally) - it's an absolutely
fantastic synth, and it's the one I should've gotten when I bought Sylenth 1 (which is a great synth, but pales in comparison!)

Man, simply loading a random preset is like instant satisfaction, and I love the sound creation possibilities.

Now... Finances...

Yeah Zebra is def a beast but..... I can't believe nobody on here mentioned FabFilters....FILTERS! lol

The filters on Twin are incredibly smooth and nice. But yeah Twin and Sylenth are pretty damn similar.

Now Zebra and FabFilter Volcano/Simpleton that's where its at!

Speaking of filters though, that's one thing getting an overhaul of sorts in Zebra 2.5. Urs is making some adjustments to the filters of Zebra, smoothing out the volumes, updating the algorithms. Also he added the filter type from Bazille into the XMF.

He's made it so that it has two modes so that all previous patches load up sounding the same, while all new patches are made with the new algorithms, and you can switch from the old to the new any time.

Definitely Zebra, URs is the man, and Zebra is a bad ass synth. I don't use it all the time, but whenever I do I'm always floored by what it can do. The new 2,5 update is very nice, and free too, whcih is hard to argue with. Between Zebra and Omnisphere, there's really not much I can't create.

Yes, Alchemy is pretty awesome. Quite cpu heavy though.

Another great thing about Zebra is that it is pretty light on cpu.

nebulae wrote:Thx, everyone, and Pasha, thank for your post. I do have a dinosaur upgrade coupon from when I sold my virus a couple of years ago, so I can get $50 off. I think Zebra is probably going to be the right way to go.
You know that whole thing is tounge in cheak right? Urs doens't expect anybody to sell an Arp 2600 and replace irt wioth software etc.

I think you know I'm on the Zebra side here. I use that synth all th time, it's really not as complicated as people make it out to be, he laid it out well, and yeah, nobody is as cool of a developer as Urs.

I would compare it to VAs like the Nords and the Virus, but with some more organic sounding filters. IMO the reall selling point of Zebra is that it sits well in a mix, <-- this is something that people say about ananlog synths, it's not an analog emulation, but it does seem to have this quality. One thing it's easy to forget in Zebra is that less is more, that you don't have to use much of what's offered, just add what you need etc. You like programming synths, spend some time with messing around with just the basics in Zebra and realize how awesome it really is.
