Do I need to optimize my Powerbook G4 ???

Post by gauss control » Tue Feb 08, 2005 9:05 pm

hello,

i boght a Macintosh Powerbook G4 867, with 750 Mb RAM and it works OK with some aplications....

But when I run Live 4.1 and apply "just an EQThree" in "just ONE track" with "just ONE LOOP"....

The sound STOP a little !

Please tell me I'm doing something wrong...

I thought "MAC"s were better :(

i don't have any sound card yet.. and i would use only 2 controllers (oxigen8 and UC33)

Anyway it's working better now. I'll make a clean install of ALL.

thanks

why is that (with OSX 10.3.6+ being better)?

is there anything wrong with using the built in powerbook soundcard?

3.6 and 3.7 addressed some minor issues with coreaudio and also sped up the whole system by quite a bit. Unless you are using firewire m-audio products, then you are going to suffer..

The powerbooks coreaudio is fine to use, but i wouldnt recommend mastering with it..its not got the high end quality thats needed for serious high end audio finalising.....its great for gigs and your home audio system though...

what about the ibook...one of my clients got a fairly new ibook with 600+ mB ram and we got some hiccups and glitches, even with the buffer set all the way.

how can one optimize an ibook/powerbook for audio (i heard about this from somebody, but i don't see any settings for it)

600 aint enough ram for a start.....ableton on macs need minimum 1gb IMO...

if you can afford it max it out ....

there are lots of posts on the forum about maximising your settings....

just spend an hour going through it all and you will find everything you need

This optimisation business is silly. You don't need to do it, but if you think it's entertaining go ahead...

I use Live on an iBook G3 900 with 384 MB of RAM, and it's good. Only thing that kills it is softsynths and the Live reverb - as you'd expect...

erm.....your completely wrong on that one im afraid....

Optimizing on macs makes a g4 run as fast as a g5...trust me!

the fact you dont dont want to do it is fine, are you saying all these poeple on here are wrong?

Yes.

If 'optimisation' is taking stuff out of your /Library and ~/Library that only gets loaded when you need it, yes, I'm saying it's a waste of time.

and i take it then you are implying that all these apps use there own parts and they dont share anything in the OS then??

Coreaudio sound familiar?

or do you think ableton use its own ???
