Switching from logic to ableton

Hi,
I am new to this forum and have just started messing around with live, after using logic for many years (since version 6, good old emagic days). I am amazed at how my workflow and creativity has increased. All this has made me consider switching from logic to ableton. I would appreciate people's thoughts and opinions on this. I know Live has its shortcomings, but I feel like I have discovered a whole new world and instrument, I am getting that rush and excitement making music again.

i'll keep it short...(yeah yeah jokers, go ahead and insert private part jokes here,so immature)
you'll notice more Live owners spend more time in the forums then they do actually using Live.

Ha! That's most definitely true. Bugger - I'd never noticed until you pointed it out!

I used to have Logic 8 running alongside both Live and Reason, but I have sold everything now apart from Live. Logic is an unbelievable package for the sheer depth and range of instruments, effects and mastering capabilities, but I found Live was simply more fluid and fun to write music in. I would definitely recommend the change!

started with Logic 7 and once I tried Ableton, I never looked back.. make the switch and join the dark side my brother..

all other daws seem pointlessly complex now...

especially reason and cubase

I'm learning that Live and Logic work well together. Don't discount rewiring Live to Logic...

Welcome to the club, funny i just give 1 to 1 tutorials to another logic - live switcher here in berlin...

but if you do still own logic, i would hang on to it, to me none of the apps is better, they are very different and do have both there strength...

Made that step up to Ableton recently -> most amazing:

The results with Live 8 sound way better.

Not because of the math behind (I do not care for 32/64 bit engine, it´s all great), but simply because of workflow.

I´m much faster with Ableton Live from step 1 - the idea - "ah, ok, this track needs FX ladida" to step 2 "yeah, sounds great" during the creation process of a track. just to give a simple example.

And I only use Live for a year now (so I guess as an Xperienced user, the whole process will even become faster).

Live is also unbeaten in playing around with musical elements in the session view and in combining musical material at different tempos. I very much like the new transient based warping, as it leaves the initial attacks of a beat intact.

Great software - enhancing creativity!

I sometimes miss certain MIDI functions from Logic though.

It's quite simple really. If you like to spend your days A/Bing snare microphones or reading books on Dithering then you should use Cubase or Pro Tools or one of the other DAWs. If you are a creative, musician-type person then don't waste any time on any other application just use Live. Be honest with yourself, being a sound engineer is nothing to be ashamed of.

yeah, i think as well that Ableton Live is more of a musician, writing, performing tool and some others (like PT, Logic, etc.) are more of a recording, engineering / production tool.

both have there valid place in music.

and that is why, once you own it already, i would hang on to logic and be able to use both.

I made my whole album in Live 7. The audio quality didn't suffer at all. I've also mastered in live A/B next to logic, and so long as your using the same plugins, there is no difference. The logic plugins are better than the live ones though in general, but theres not much in it any more.... not enough of a difference to justify using logic over live, especially if your in the habbit of using 3rd party plugins.
