Reasonable groove values for hiphop beats

Hello,

can anybody recommend any reasonable groove values for hiphop beats in order to get a more natural, organic feel?

Right now I got my snares and hihats set to a 1/16 base, 0% quantize, 11% timing, 35% random and 0% velocity.

It sounds good, but does anybody know of anything better?

I played around with the grooves from the groove library and tweaked a few of the MPC styles which produced some nice results. Have you tried that?

I hear that - but this ain't about that.

The thing is, I just can't get it to sound right with this computer keyboard. Plus I got some latency issues. So until I can afford the APC and a new sound card, I just draw in my drums manually, perfectly quantized, hoping Live's groove function will make it more human.

I asked around on some other forums and I got some great advice there as well:

I always have a mic cabled up close to my desktop anyway, so I often just do some "desktop finger tap drumming" and record that. I will then extract the timing of that take.
Really, id you haven't tried something like that yet, I highly recommend doing so. The results can be amazing.

Oh yeah, that would be a pain. You may have some lucky resolving your latency issues by using the free program asio4all

Thanks for sharing what you found out about the desk tapping, I've never tried that approach. Definitely going to try it out!

i was trying to program out breakbeats, thats a pain, 60 dollars later, easy, and fun

the apc, isnt really good for live drum playing from what i understand

Yeah, I was thinking about this piece of gear, any major complaints? I think I read on another thread it wouldn't keep something in memory or?!? not clear on its setup so didn't know if it was a deal breaker.

my first one was a broken one that was put back on the shelf by accident but the second works great

i also know of 4 other people with it and no issues
