Any idea what percent of electronic musicians use Live?
I started this little mix challenge where I uploaded 4 bar Ableton project and invited different people to mix it (leave it as a four bar loop but apply compression, eq, fx etc. to make the best starting point possible).
On the mnml.nl forum this project was welcomed warmly. On the gearslutz forum a ridiculous number of people were freaking out, especially over my choice to to use Live as the DAW of choice for this.
My argument was that Live was multi-platform, you could run it for free in trial mode if ncessary, and it had a comprehensive set of core plugins that could universally be used by everyone to complete all necessary mixing tasks.
I also speculated that the majority of electronic musicians now use Live... they may use Logic, FL, Reason and other tools in the studio but almost anyone playing live use Ableton.
The guys on gearslutz say this is BS!
So I was wondering if there were any official stats to backup my claim???
if you want to see the thread check it out here:

and the positive one is here at mnml.nl

there probably isn't, but with a name like GEARSLUTZ I don't think they are worth your time.

WHAT A CUNT!I make music for a living... I have worked for Sony for 2 years, and Warner as a producer for the past 7, so yes, I can honestly say a mix of a 4 bar loop by me warrants payment.
I am totally interested to hear what better engineers than me can do. However, those people also deserve to get paid for their time and troubles.

GS is actually an awesome forum.
Although there are a lot of industry professionals on there, so mostly Protools and Logic are what people are used to working with at that forum.
And of course, our old buddy Timur can frequently be found extolling his superior scientific knowledge there

I think an issue is a lot of those guys make really cheesy and commercial music and are kind of clueless when it comes to underground dance music. Also I notice a lot of people in the Electronic Musician part of it only talk about gear.... maybe less talk and more action!
There are definitely some cool people on there and great advice in forums like the mastering section. The guest Q&A are amazing too, they allow everyone to post questions in a forum and the special guest will address each thread. They had one recently with Butch Vig and he freely shared any details about any sound on any albuym (including his love for putting almost everything through an akai s1000).

The've recently had Marshall Jefferson on the producers Q&A and that was fascinating.
John Leckie (Stone Roses, Radiohead, New Order, the LAs among his credits), Michael Brauer, Tony Maserati, Bruce Swedien (Michael Jackson's mixer/engineer), Dave Pensado, etc, etc. Certainly these forums with real solid gold producers and engineers offer a great insight.

I usually avoid that forum. There's usually equally useful information elsewhere without having to be exposed to the snobbery that goes on there.
