ABLETON VJ APP???
This may have come up briefly on the board before but I will make another post just to make sure the ableton guys see it. Back me up LIVE users if you think this would be a good idea!
I Love LIVE, most of us religiously check this forum for any news or ideas and eagerly await the next release!
I think it would be AMAZING if ableton developed a VJ program with generally the same principles as LIVE. Think of it! you could do for live video performance what you have successfully done for live music performance software. My rudimentary suggestions are a purple color scheme or something similar to LIVE's cool greeness. Call it ableton "VISUAL" or something more original. Its just that there is such a lack of quality, stable vj software and I think this is an area where we need ableton to step in and revolutionize once again!

I use Arkaos and I love it!
They just released new v. 3. all kinds of cool new features...
It's a Visual-Synth and amazingly deep.
Drop in jpeg-/gif-/quicktime mov.-/ live feed and more
I just got an m-audio radium-61 just for running/playing this. My plan is a full multi-media performance-- live/reason/cubase/arkaos/lots of midi-gear/lights/fog/ etc.........
try the demo...

ABLETON VJ APP???
I'm quite familiar with most of the VJ software thats out there right now... for both PC and MAC, most of it is not very impressive as far as aesthetic design and I find stability an issue... especially for the mac. I am running a powerbook 667, 1 gigRAM and a compaq athlon xp 2200.
I firmly believe that if ableton were to take up the task of creating a VJ application based on a LIVE type interface it would be an incredibly successful and important software development.
I would love it if any of the ableton guys would care to comment on this idea!

Interface - wise Ableton is unparallelled, but I think that we have to realize that programming a VJ application asks far more than the ability to substitute WAV by QT, AVI, MPEG, .... It's a whole different ballgame. If they do want to do it than I'd really want them to go for the complete A/V integration, because on that field the options are still WIIIIDE open .
I know that several VJ application developers are here on the board [ Marcus, R--Funk ... do you hear me
]on a reguar basis as well and that they draw inspiration from Ableton already ... so i wouldn't be amazed that quite soon we'll see a clutterfree VJ application around here

Vjamm is dependable
We've been using Vjamm ver 1 for some time, and will hopefully soon move to VjammPro. I've played with demos of the other apps, which are all fun, but only VJamm has never crashed.

Midivid is fun, and free, check 'em out

that app crashed on my a couple time too, however, but it's fun to play with... the folks who made the program seem to do fine, so maybe it's just the box I was running it on.
here's a pic from a gig we just did, video floating above our heads:

Yes please! Or make it easier to integrate with programs such as VJamm and Arkaos.
Is it possible to run Live on one computer and sync it up with a VJ app running on another computer?
I'm just thinking that this may be a more robust way of doing an A/V performance without crashing. Also, in case one of the computers does crash you could then still hear or see something to keep the performance going in some way while you reboot.

Live & Arkaos.. fantastic!
I'm using Live & Arkaos.. outstanding! Not only using Live MIDI note-ons to trigger visuals, but Live CC messages to control video parameters, which end up synced to the tempo.. too cool.. especially scratching videos! Sure wish I could draw Bezier CC curves in Live, tho.. gotta do it elsewhere. But once they're drawn, they're saved as MIDI clips and played live into Live. I also program my light show the same way and trigger it from Live.. scanners & washes, which also respond to Live's tempo.
Lots o' work but lots o' fun.. and some day maybe I'll make some money out of it!
