Buttons for DIY midi controller

Post by AlexB » Wed Feb 09, 2005 2:48 pm

Hello.

Building a midi controller at the moment with my dad and a friend.

Evrythings going cool, pretty much got everything I need sorted out, using the doepfer units as a base.

However, I seem to be having problems sourcing some decent buttons. I've looked at RS components, Maplin etc.. can't seem to find anything really good, and the other stuff I've sourced is real nice and if I can afford it, don't really want some shitty buttons. Theres a possibility at Farnell that my dad is looking at for me.

Anyone else had this problem and may be able to point me in the direction of any good electronics suppliers? I'm UK based.

Ideally, I need something relatively small and hard wearing, not pcb mounted.

Am going to go for a mix of illuminated and not, so any suggestions would be gratefully received.

Many Thanks

Alex

Me too... All I`ve found is stockists in the US.
I`m gonna try them out..

Getting a good priced button is difficult too..
I`ve found loads of nice looking buttons only to find they`re gonna cost an arm and a leg..

£15 each! Aye RIGHT.

(maybe I could sell a kidney or something).

Hey Plonkman, thanks for that.

any chance you can point me to the US peeps?

Yeah, found some expensive ones too - bit too much, I need 64!

You got all your other bits and bobs sorted out then?

Hi guys,
I've been interested in doing the same as you but I can't find anyone who'll give me the time of day to explain anything to me.
What do I need etc?
Thanks in advance
Void

Hey.

Void - there's a few places to start and have a read - a good one being this thread - http://www.ableton.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=12655

have a look there and follow some of the links etc, should lead you to some good info!

Boxerfresse, thank you for the link, very kind. We're building with the doepfer stuff - seemed the easiest thing to do (?)

how about you, the same?
