MIDI issue with Alesis ION and LIVE 4

Post by rasputin7 » Mon Jan 24, 2005 2:02 pm

Hi,

New to the forum with what may be a stupid question.

I'm using the Alesis Ion keyboard through an maudio Audiophile USB interface to control softsynths on my PowerBook. It does that fine. However, I'm clearly missing a button or two when it comes to setting up the system so the the onboard Alesis sounds can be heard instead of the plugin synths' sounds. I can see that the MIDI signal is indeed getting through (level indicators) but unless I assign the Ion to a softsynth, no sound comes out. The soft synths work fine with the keyboard. I would, however, about 50% of the time like to have the benefit of the Alesis' onboard sounds too. I've tried setting the Ion's MIDI settings to local only and midi plus local, but with no success.

Any idea what I'm doing wrong?

Thanks.

Rusbutin,

Check the configuration of your soundcard, make sure that your audio inputs are routing to the correct output on you audio hardware.

You should be able to hear sound from the ion and soft synths on different channels at the same time if this has been set up correctly.

Cheers

it sounds like you need to set "Local" to off. you would then set up a track to transmit MIDI out to the ION. Once that is set up, you can click the track of your choice and hear either a softsynth or the ION depending on what the track is set to trigger.
