+1 here, with a MOTU and NVidia Graphics.

Was absolutely rock solid under Live 7.

I'd like my Money back please!!!

I too am getting pops and clicks when I drag clips around while audio is playing. Originally I thought it was because I was running windows 7 as the OS, but launching Live in compatibility mode doesn't make a difference.

I also have random pops and clicks in Live 8.0.4 running on Windows 7 x64.

The funny thing though is:

- I had the same with Windows XP 32-bit.
- The issue was quite gone with Windows Vista 64-bit.
- The issue is back in Windows 7 64-bit.

I've also noticed that taskmanager in Windows shows a much higher CPU usage than Live is reporting. And if I was running a large project, al' moving actions, like VU meters, Send knobs, following wave was very slow.

Now comes the funny part: if I'm running a live session I disable as much as I can in the interface (the IO, send, latency, crossfader, detail screen) and now I do not have any pops and clicks anymore, audio is VERY stable and even better yet: taskmanager is actually reporting a LOWER cpu usage than Ableton Live does... :-). So this workaround works quite OK for me, perhaps for you too.

the graphic gui slowdown is because you need to run it in compability mode. ;)

Okay so I finally figured this thread out and now I wish I had never replied to a single post so that it would stop popping up in "view your posts"

Really most folks here don't actually want any help. What they want is to complain and a magic patch or update that fixes PCs and Macs to come out and whisk away any glitches they may have.

Too bad.

It actually takes some work. You have to draw a line in the sand and say here is the known good and here is the known bad and begin dividing the problem up and whittling it down.
Its easy to blame Ableton or Native Instruments or Microsoft or your mom or whoever. Half of you are probably neglecting to consider that the free plugin you got glued to the front of a magazine may be causing issues. A bunch more of you think that your computers are bug proof cuz they have a little apple on em and don’t have a clue how much spyware, malware, crapware, virus activity there really is going on behind the scenes. Then there’s just plain shit drivers from everything from webcams to printers and on to video games and every program under the sun that thinks it should install an automatic updater that the bulk of you never bother to turn off or uncheck during the install or afterwards. I can't help but wonder how many of you have antivirus software running and an open internet connection while you're making tracks. Lets not even get into “dirty” electricity in your dive ass apartment or old house.

Don’t fuckin kid yourselves this shit is work.

More options mean more problems.

Creating an ever growing infinite thread based on every time someone hears a pop and expecting Ableton to have a magic patch is lame.

For those of you with a real issue I’m sorry for your problems.

For those of you that are too lazy to troubleshoot or too ignorant of your own bad habits or lack of troubleshooting skills… your problem will be fixed temporarily when you get a new computer or reload your O.S. Don’t get too excited though… that’s just a temporary fix until you start fucking up your computer again. They’re just like cars or any other device or possession. You have to maintain them.

/rant

Don’t bother to reply you have something that you NEED to be fixing – or selling.

sounds just like you man ...

i'm having this problem on 3 different computers where i didn't have it in L7 .. my machines are super clean, no freewre, shiteware, cracks or warez at all, just purchased 'professional' software, wouldn't come in here posting about it unless it was a serious PITA.

Agreed.

Fair enough. I've done my testing on a brand new Windows 7 RC x64 install. I have no extra plugins enabled, no VSTs, just Live 8 and Sampler. I have no antivirus installed and have not installed anything but Windows and Live and the appropriate drivers for my hardware. I don't have a camera or printer connected, just an ethernet card. No video games installed. My hard drives have even been defragmented recently. I get these issues when running Live and only Live with no other programs (such as Firefox or IE) running. My electricity is conditioned and regulated by my APC battery backup that can support up to 800 VA but normally only pushes about 200 tops.

So no, I don't think that many users chiming in saying "me too" on this issue is unreasonable. Most of us have already investigated the other possibilities before bothering to register and post here.

well to hell with it, i'll chime in here and say "me too" with the clicks. no, i'm not using only ableton plug-ins, but i'm also not using obscure/unknown plug-ins i got from inside of a serial box either.

i get lots of lovely clicks and pops and such at 60% cpu (that is if ableton's cpu meter can be trusted, which it probably can't be).

running a 2.16ghz c2duo w/3gb ram (imac) os10.4.11. shouldn't be having this sort of problem with this kind of system, really. tbh if this were the only problem i were having with live8, i'd be pretty damned happy. sadly it's not, and i'm starting to get a little annoyed that i paid money for the upgrade.

hopefully ableton are actually reading these posts so we can possibly have these sorts of issues solved.

OS X users

Download and install the application "Coolbook" (http://www.coolbook.se). Turn the CPU load slider up until the clicks disappear (likely needs values higher than 5). This will force your CPU into its highest clock-rate and effectively turn off Speedstep.

The CPU Load slider is available in the free trial version, switching the CPU clock to a fixed state is only available for paid users. Unfortunately it doesn't work as promised on current Core2Duo Macs unless you are doing some more trickery (and even then the CPU load slider remains the best working option).

Windows Users

Open Task-Manager, right-click on Live.exe and change Live's "Priority" to "Realtime".

You can also try to defeat Speedstep by running some additional CPU load in the background (like Prime95 which runs at lowest priority).

If you are using Bootcamp on a Mac you also need to perform several tweaks, including turning off KBDMGR.EXE (I made a script for that), updating your WLAN driver and checking your graphic-card driver's behavior: http://www.rme-audio.de/forum/viewtopic.php?id=4320

Non Bootcamp/Mac users might want to have a look at the possible tweaks as well.
We're all mad in here...
