if you don't like ableton, try logic, pro-tools, cubase, acid, maybe also fruity loops, garage band, and then report back if they are better. I heard good stuff about those programs, and there are a lot of people using them. but I am happy with live already. bye

It makes little sense to ask for Live to follow common (what you call "compatible") GUI design rules, because one major point about using Live is to get away from those. There are lots of classically build DAWs out there, but some people want "alternatives" and thus use Live.

I agree that there should be consistency, but some compromises have to be made where lack of screen-estate is an issue. I.e. scroll-buttons need space that is better left for more important things while you can still perfectly well scroll via mouse and keyboard.

Concerning these compromises one of the biggest drawbacks is the lack of multi-monitor support which forces everything to be cramped together into one place. But some people like it just because of exactly this concept.

It's very unfortunate that there are no real alternative/competition products out there when it comes to non-linear work-flow. Because of that you either have to deal with/learn Live or use more traditional concept. Bad luck!
I object to how easy this forum can be used with fake accounts and question the continuous banishment of one specific user while allowing others to repeatedly publish insults, adult content, anti-women and anti-homosexual propaganda and racist statements.

I've tried pro-tools, cubase, and even garage band, those don't do what I said I was looking for. I own logic, and that doesn't do what i said i was looking for. Haven't tried acid or fruity loops though. But it sounds like you didn't consider what I said I was looking for. Thanks anyway!

That explains the price too [= oh well. Market opportunity, anyone? lol
Still have not seen anything other than Live that does what I said I was looking to do. I suppose a simple alternative could be coded and built into Kyma X if one had the time. *Ponders*

You don't do anything. You're fucked. It's proprietary software, with a proprietary file format meaning when Ableton no longer activate Live, all the music you've made with it is essentially gone.

I know I'm not going to get anywhere quoting Stallman round these parts, but it's good to see I'm not the only one who thinks this is an issue.

Suit #2: No, sir, he says he does this sort of thing for fun.

^ what you do is finish a track before they go out of business. If its mixed down your music won't be "essentially gone".

The clock is always ticking, but I'm sure there's still time.

You don't have to advertise your sexuality here. I doubt anyone is interested. That's not what this thread was for anyway.
