MBP 2.4GHZ W/ TI CHIPSET AND PRESONUS FIREBOX. **help**
folks,
i've searched and come up with last years info. i need the word right now 8/29!
i have a MBP 2.4ghz c2d w/ TI chipset (via cmd s)
and would like to buy the presonus firebox.
will it work?
will it work without jumpstarting with the adapter?

I don't think there has been too many issues with TI chipsets, quite contrary, TI chipset is the that is usually recommended. I never had issues with TI chipset (my previous first generation MacBook) and Firebox. I'd say go for it.

So I have a MBP... I dont know what chipset i have (2.2 core 2 duo)
I do have the Firebox and love it, however i do have to use it with the adapter.
This dont matter to me cause its clean and bug free(for me)
No drivers and low latency...what more could you ask for?
(assuming you need the specified ins and outs)

arctic ranger,
i feel the same way, even if i had to plug it in, i would
prefer it to the m-audio nightmare i'm currently cursing at.
there's a way to find out what chipset you have,
you can restart your mbp while holding down cmd s
it'll load a bunch of stats and halfway down the page
will say firewire after which will say either: TI or something else like agere.
that would be really helpful to know if you dont mind.
thanks!

weighing options.
my current dodgy m-audio that's bus powered
or
a solid firebox w/ power adapter.
i'm leaning toward the latter.
anyone else?

i see the grief with the PSU, but damn apple introduced the current overload protection for firewire on the late modelsgrainshifter wrote:weighing options.

and otherwise it's a rock, rock solid roadworthy unit.
it is a pity with some products, like M-Audio or TC Electronics to actually make very decent hardware but screw the drivers and performance, therefor making the unit useless.

Re: MBP 2.4GHZ W/ TI CHIPSET AND PRESONUS FIREBOX. **help**
thanks for the insight.
so you're saying that by using a 9V battery you could bypass
the power adapter to bus power the firebox?
do you have to do this every time?

yup, every time... but only for starting the device... once it's running it will run bus powered... until you disconnect.grainshifter wrote:thanks for the insight.

therefor it is really only a filed or emergency solution (but does work!), if possible in a club i always would use the PSU...

Yeah it does have juice, but if you use the mix mode in the firebox mixer you can tame it with the software playback level... anyway, spend some time wrapping your head around the mixer, it's small yet powerfull...
