Saving a VST with parameters ? There's a solution but ...

Post by dinaiz » Sun Aug 30, 2009 4:35 pm

OK let's say I have a VST, inside of which I tweak many parameters. Now I want to save that INSIDE ableton live, so I can recall directly that sound (loading the VST and stuff) directly from live's browser, in another live set.

How do I do that ? The only way I found was to group the VST into an instrument rack, and the save the rack, which works, but the rack is useless in this case. Do you know another solution ? Cheers :-)

if it's saved in another live set, just go to the browser while your in a new live set (the one you want to reuse the VST sound in), and find that original live set. there's a pull-down menu next to all live sets that allows you to pull in the instrument (i.e. MIDI or audio) tracks from that live set into the current one.

Great thanks ! Maybe it's a good idea to make an empty live set with all the custom instruments in it then ? Thanks for the tip ;-)

i usually save presets i really like. if they're instrument racks, you can just group the whole rack and save it into the the instrument rack folder (there's a 'save' floppy disk icon on all racks, instrument, drum, effect..)

Even better, just double click a clip slot on the session view to create a blank clip, then CNTRL+R to rename the clip, then drag and drop it in the Live browser in a location of your hard drive. It will create a .alc file, you can drag that back from the broswer to Live to recall the preset.
