Notes & Synaesthesia
A feature I'd very much like to see is the option to give notes their own colours - either from a preferences menu or individual colours. The reason behind this being that I have grapheme synaesthesia - and consequently see letters and numbers as colours. If notes could have colours, it would be far easier for someone such as myself to read the MIDI clips without the need for seeing the letters. As I cannot read music, I thought it would also be interesting to use a colour coded keyboard to compose with - I realise that colour coding things may seem slightly childish, however interesting work like this - http://www.musanim.com/ - has been done around this subject - admittedly this link isn't the most up to date but it still contains some very aesthetically pleasing stuff...

Aah yes, MaxForLive could be a solution - I did wonder about using Processing - having it as a step sequencer perhaps - or taking the MIDI data from Live and turning into into coloured block - kind of like the Music Animation Machine I linked. Either way, it's definitely something that I think could be very for those learning music...

Oh I missed the link - interesting! Have you got that MIDI player working? You can export MIDI files from Live so you could load them into it
I'm on Mac and it's windows only, but it looks interesting - I was actually looking at doing a similar kind of project for a masters

Re: Notes & Synaesthesia
i have thought of requesting this specifically for samples in drum rack
right click and choose the color for the sample, then in the piano roll they appear as the same color
an option for color scaling on note values would be equally awesome
color coding isn't childish at all, it makes organizing and memorizing things much easier
