District 9
Re: District 9
I'm not planning on reading through the whole thread. It seems fairly long. I watched District 9 and I thought it was refreshing. It's nice to know that really anything imaginable can be done with CGI nowadays. It looked at felt like a documentary in certain parts and felt like an action flick in others. It didn't really feel like a traditional sci-fi at all. I enjoyed it.

Its one of those movies that when you watch it again you go "ahhh...now i get it"
Also side by side it destroys the Transformers 2 movie.

Just finished it. Yeah, it looked nice, but good lord the story and characters were just sad. Overall, piece of crap movie with nice visuals.

I will agree that I'm wrong in your eyes and right in my own, and vice versa.beats me wrote:Well, then we'll just agree that you're wrong on this oneaqua_tek wrote:Touché. Bending my own words agaisnt me, well done. However I have to rebut that.
it's not that all the movies I like are bad. I just like a bunch of flicks, some of which are bad. See the dif?
Even when I have admitted to having a broad range of films I can like, I can also tell which ones among these would be generally accepted as being good. I would say D9 is one of those. But that's just my opinion. And you know what they say about opinions and assholes...![]()
I'm still your biggest fan in the San Jose metro area though.
And I'm YOUR biggest fan in the tristate area.

Re: District 9
Just got back. I thought it was great!
Thanks to Kranky's direction I indulged, and sat at the back.
I think it might be comparable to Children of Men where some people (like me) think its one of the best movies they've seen in years, and for some people it's... meh. To each their own I suppose.
Now where's the spoilerific discussion thread??

Re: District 9
Watched it last night....loved it. Glad to sit a bit further back in the theater.
Oh, the gut-wrenching inhumanity of the humans! I feel like this movie portrays how this kind of event would really be. Sure there are some plot holes, but I also like how there's a lot you don't know in the movie...again, much like how it might really be. We wouldn't know why they are here, or how the ship hovers, or what they want, or how black space fluid can do what it did. But in the face of our ignorance, those in power would very likely behave just they way this movie portrays.
It was interesting watching this after seeing Watchmen....deeply flawed protagonists.
I hope they don't ruin it by having a sequel.

Re: District 9
Mmm,
Reverse arpartheid?
Cat food?
Would you know what to feed an Alien?
20 years has gone by and true to form ....the gangsters are winding it in!
Survival of the fittest? Exploitation by the nation (South Africa)...?
Wishful thinking on the part of White Kaffers!
There's money everywhere, business, oil, food..........
These aliens even had "English" names........They've been here 20 years, it's almost like
the Poles and the Afghans etc, that have transmigrated to Eastern (or especially Northern) Europe.

District 10 is the place to be?
I felt sorry for those guys (aliens). This is how we are............
