well,

browsing the web, and I'm upset. 8O

LOGIC PRO 9 IS JUST RELEASED... AND SEEMS ALREADY STABLE AND RELIABLE!!! ???

(yes we can see some little bugs are reported, but, 98% of Logic 9 new users are according to say it's stable and reliable...)

Used to deal with ableton or NI software, I can't imagine a just-released-software to be, well, just working...
even my virust Ti has needed more than one year of several updates to access (!) a quite ok reliability level...

Do you logic 9 new users confirm this incredible reliability?

cheers

I used Logic on PC until version 5.5 when apple bought the thing..
After getting a MBP 2 years ago I have been thinking about starting
to use it again, but haven't seen any use for it because I had Live.
After the price were slashed I wanted to get my hands on it again..

I just recently got Logic 9, and was surprised to see that my MBP
could quite easily, and stable, run a 50+ track project with 250+ plugins

So so far it is running very smooth and stable :)

Yeah, I was using Logic 8 yesterday doing a mixdown for someone and was amazed at the number of plug ins being used with barely any CPU hit on my 3 year old MBP. Apple definitely has optimized that app!

Absolutely!
I also tried the Killers project on one of the discs with 80 tracks..
ran nicely.

With Live I think I can run somewhere between 30-50 tracks, albeit with
far less plugins and all warping off. With warping on the audio, the track
count drops fast.

On our Pjusk project, we rarely have more than 10-15 tracks, so it is hardly
any issue.

..but it is always fun to see how much one can squeeze out of the laptop :)

needless to say, Logic has been since it's under apple always been a CPU magician... i just love it for that alone.

and it would be unfair to expect it from Live being the same, but a little bump would be very nice though! (and i am certain it's doable)

seriously. i'm looking into studio one (I dont have a MB) for the cpu alone. its getting real tough writing music that starts to crackle and pop after only 8 channels

Logic was the CPU king on PC when it was PC, Apple didn't give Logic special code to get optimized, Emagic did that. :)

Live is first and foremost a live instrument, It uses more resources keeping everything active, Logic allocates resources only to those tracks that are record enabled or armed. Digital Performer 6 for instance now goes even further with pre-rendering and gets higher track counts etc. It's one reason Live will never be as CPU friendly as Logic, DP or even Cubase, and why Live has much better routing, and reliability while tweaking it live than any of those apps.
Whatever fast freeze type deal DP6 is doing pre- rendering wise, it would be nice to see it in Live, but ATM freeze is your friend. Also pre-rendering kinda goes against Live's paradigm.

except that
Emagic did that.
you don't really spread news... all i have said is that a little bump would be nice, being fully aware that Live is a different beast.

p.s. the whole e-magic team worked unaltered at least in the beginning for apple... only change they had is the graphics good apple styled... don't know how it is our days.

You're not making sense here? Your wording is such that it reads that you're saying that since Apple bought Logic, it's been optimized CPU wise, this isn't true, in fact Logic like every other DAW has become more CPU heavy with every new release.
I think it's wise to not spread the rumor that Apple are giving the Logic team special pointers to optimize CPU over other DAWs, and that's how your post read.

nonsense... (tired of explaining, sorry) point is, i like Live being realtime or not to be a notch more efficient in the future.
that it takes up more the more is added, is clear... still just a tiny speed bump would be nice, that is all.

i am aware of the fact that it never can be as efficient then others, that is not the point, the wish is just a little squeeze...

got me know?

Yeah, you're not getting that your wording was bad. I understood you're thinking that Ableton could make Live more cpu efficient, I'm just saying that stating that Logic is more efficient under Apple etc. is misleading, even if that's not your intention.

Honestly though, Live probably can't be made more CPU efficient, sorry to say, but it's probably just not possible. Personally I was confused as to why for instance Operator takes more CPU that FM7, but it did, and I would say it's highly unlikely that Ableton are bad coders etc. The real time nature of Live is costly I think. :|

OK< sorry for my wording...

i feel the same... but i still have hope they can manage just a tiny bit... you know...

it sort of feels not right, Live is the only app that whenever an update comes it makes you feel like you need to go straight away out and buy the latest super computer at the same time you upgrade...

i am really in the boat of having less functionality in Live and a bit better performance.

but i know, i am on my own regarding that.
