Same issue on Mac

Post by The Mysterious Flying Pum » Wed Feb 09, 2005 8:00 am

Hi,
I have the same problem with Live 4.1 on my iBook and it is not reproducible. The CPU jumps very high from time to time for no reason.
I switched back to Live 2 for live performance as I don't have the problem with the same sets on Live 2. Live 2 seems much more stable than 4.1.

you have to go the slow way.
Let it jump and come back.
Each time I creat a truck or do anything, i do this.

This is one of the reason I don't create with live4.
It's a great tool, though.
Too slow and unstable for deep down work.

watch out when you creat those templates.

Do you guys defrag?

Do you run audio from a separate HD to OS?

smartass... gee um.. i already kinda figured out that anyone who doesn't respond to this thread saying "it happens on my machine too" doesn't have the same problem... just because it doesn't happen to you doesn't mean it doesn't happen at all.

Damn I used "doesn't" a lot just then...

I doesn't figure that using the word doesn't kinda doesn't make you feel doesn't smart. huh?

As for defraging, there really is no such thing in osX. I have a feeling the problem, atleast in my case, has to do with clearing the cache and freeing up the ram.

I say this because once the problem happens it does not happen again during the same session. It also only seems to occur after I have been using design or other processor intensive applications for a while.

For example, last night I did a small amount of work in photoshop and illustrator. This morning, as I write this post, I launch the live set in question. I have the problem. And again, once it happens one time it does not happen again.

I quit and restart live. Does not happen.

I have work to do today and I'll be willing to bet that live will be fine before I start, but if I take a break midway through and launch that set I'll have the problem.

Keep in mind also that I rarely restart my computer.

Will continue to monitor.

I was joking and I think he figured it out ...

It could be something to do with cache or virtual memory, maybe it doesn't dump memory so well... I will fiddle with some stuff, I just don't wanna reinstall windows to find the same problem.

i might be way off here, but i seem to remember having seen a similar problem on the forum a while ago.
as i recall it had to do with assigning midi to sends or whatever. the problem was cured (not healed) by wiggling a knob before starting your set...
hope this helps, a bit too much in a hurry to do a search

I also wonder, I have a 60 gig drive with just 7.16 gigs free. I wonder if freeing up some disk space would make a difference?
