Have absolutely no use for Looper and need to show it off.
Hi,
I'm currently recording an Ableton Live Tutorial DVD and one section is about Looper.
But I have one problem: Looper is in my opinion the most useless device in Live. I can't think of any workflow where Looper comes in handy.
Can you tell me what you are using Looper for, please?
Thanks,
Zettt

Re: Have absolutely no use for Looper and need to show it off.
Lot's of people are using it. Just use the search function in the forum and you'll get loads of threads with people explaining how they use it.
I admit, I personally also have very little use for it, as I work all in the box (ie only live's synths and vst's). But for people using real instruments together with live it's really useful.

Instead of the pedal that guy uses you can use a midikeyboard as well.
Not sure if the video is helping.

im currently playing with 2 banks of 4 loopers each being fed from a virtual deck in a dj kind of set up. over time i can grab loops on the fly bring them in and out of the mix at will etc etc.
looper is a great device, im glad the beat repeat is so cack for loping or i wouldnt have thought to use it.

It's for live usage, I see...My part of this DVD tutorial series is mainly about the Arrange View.
I will suggest my boss that it's no good having Looper on this DVD. It should be put on another one.
Thanks.

What's your problem? My part of the series is focusing on the Arranger, the next one focuses on Live usage another one on ... you get it?
The first DVD we did was an overall overview of Live.

hey zettt!
c'mon man, looper can work in arrange view. You have to set up anutha channel and resample the audio because it doesn't record your changes as automation or as ANYTHING. I think it's good for people to know HOW to use the device within arrange even if you don't have the most incredible example. This is only if you want to record the PROCESS of the loop being created vs the final product.
if your JUST using the final product:
a nice example to use though would be sound scapes. record a nice long loop with some pad stuff and then tweaky tweaky with several takes across different octaves, use the reverse function and dub again, so some things play forward and some play backwards. Drag this to a clip and use clip env/automation etc.
Sell it as a way to spark a different creativity, just through working with a different method, or just getting warmed up or whatever.
Might be better with guitars and such more than virtual instruments because of the nuance. For guitars it's way cool to create a layered thing.

don't pay attention to the negativity man.
Re: Have absolutely no use for Looper and need to show it off.
Looper's great for composing with, I've used it to record off the cuff chord improvs on guitar and to then quickly find other parts and melodies while it's all still running round. I may not end up using any of the recorded material but I might go straight into arrange and record the parts properly once I'm satisfied with the composition. I can always refer back to the looper performance to refresh my memory in the normal event of details slipping my mind once a bit of time has passed. For me it's all about capturing an improv.
