This might sound strange, but I'm looking for Ableton Live Lite 3.

out of interest can we as legal owners of a live licence use anything we want down to live 1, or are we only allowed to use the latest version. also can we download the old versions from ableton anywhere?

You can only download the versions you own. I for example would be able to get anything down to Live 3. My bad. Keep in mind you need a computer from the previous generation to run Live 3.
