SYNC MY 2 COMPUTERS WITH LIVE

Post by sequential factory » Mon Feb 14, 2005 2:52 pm

hi,

Is it possible to synchronise by midi my G5 (DUAL 2 GIG POWER PC) to my IBOOK G3 800 for live set purpose ?

Here are my pieces of equipements :

MIDIMAN MIDISPORT 2 X2
MIDIMAN OXYGEN 8 KEYBOARD
FIREWIRE 420 M-AUDIO

Here are the software that i want to use to synchronise my 2 computers,
both running on Live

I want to know in details on how should i connect all these hardware to
synchronise my 2 computers

thanks

Jean-François

just connect the midi output of one computer to the midi input of the other one, and highlight the "EXT" button of the slave computer...

more precision about what hardware you are using for what computer would help

ex : G5 with firewire 420 => iBook with Oxygen 8
RS7000 >> Live 4.1.4 >> Virus B
Desktop : Win XP Pro SP1, E-MU 1212M
Laptop : Win XP Pro SP2, M-Audio FW410

do a search on this board, there has been much debate about this issue. last thing i read was that sync isn't working properly between two computers.

sync is easy with live

Hello, I personally sync two PC's and one MAC with live as the host sequencer in all three. Midi sync is very easy. Just follow the directions, but in a nut shell here is how to do it. You must of course have either a USB to midi interface or Straight midi interfaces from your sound card. OK so, connect all the computers with midi cables and then simple Assign one machine as a Master and the others as slaves. Make the appropriate settings in Live. All of your machines will then turn on in sync. It truely really is easy to do and I can testify that it works very well.

I'm using Live on my Powerbook and Arkaos VJ on my PC notebook. USB MIDI interfaces on both.. Live plays the video synth without a problem. They're not even synced.. don't think they need to be. Live just sents notes, CCs and program changes to VJ without a problem.

when i use midiclock to sync 2 computers with live, the slave is jittering. the sounds are unstable when i use "re-pitch" in the sample. did you know this problem ? is it better to use midi timecode ?

i've tried midi timecode when syncing ableton to cubase, but that didn't help with tempo drifts i also experienced with midi clock. maybe it will work with outboard gear, i don't know.

no, we synched both computer with a masterclock from an external masterkeyboard. but live is still jittering. it's minimal, but you can hear it.mmmh i will give it a try with another sync master (mpc).
