Hi,
I'm trying to apply a pitch bend to a drum fill in a techno track. You've heard it before
on 808 drum fills where the pitch of the snare drops as the fill plays out.
I can do this easily in Live 8 just by playing with the transpose knob on the audio track
with WARP switched on. Sounds pretty cool but how I do assign the transpose knob on that audio
track to any of the knobs on my midi controller so that I can record this effect?
I've tried the obvious method of hitting the midi button at the top of the screen, i then select
the highlighted transpose knob and tweak away but I must be doing something wrong because it fails
to assign. I know the controller is OK because i can assign controllers to midi tracks with no problems.
So it looks like assigning midi controllers to an audio track works a little different.
Can anybody tell me what I've done wrong?
Cheers

Re: How do I create a pitch bend on an audio track using a midi
firstly i'd assign it to the pitch bend wheel if u have one, so it goes back to the middle(default=0) when u let go (spring loaded). you'll have to automate it in the arrange page then drag it back to the session view.
done!
P.s tone mode will probably get the best results, depends on the source material you'll have to play around with the different modes to see what works best.

Sorry if this is a no brainer, but is your WARP mode on Re-Pitch? If so you will not be able to mess with the transposition.

i'm confused, is this is in a recording or live performance context?

Some sample events, including transpose, cannot be midi-mapped very well, if at all. Things like transpose, loop set/length, are midi mappable, but are global controls, and will only affect the clip that you have highlighted!
A few workarounds are possible:
You can automate Transposition with a clip envelope. This is probably the best way in a non-live situation. (See Live 8 manual pg. 26 Section 4.12 Clip Envelopes) If in a live situation and you demand the ability to improvise, you can still use this method, but you might need to make a few duplicate clips with different pitch-sweeps and set their launch mode to Legato.
Another workaround would be to drop a Frequency Shifter device on your track and midi-map the Coarse Frequency knob. This won't sound exactly the same, but you've got the benefit of complete realtime control.
Rock on,

If you happen to have a Nocturn, that is now possible via a custom template made with Python that was posted in the forum a couple of weeks ago, by guille.
