Re: Monome Emulator for APC40 - free fun for you APC users!
i have been messing with the monome apps.. they are wicked cool.
does anyone have a solution for switching between monome and standered apc without touching the computer?
...snap idea lol..
i have not started experimenting yet but maybe routing a virtual midi cable to the monome app.. just zap to an empty grid arm track and go...

if Elvis and Slayer had a love child then that love child mated with all the members of primus and spit out twins. you would rock harder then the band those three would make.
Re: Monome Emulator for APC40- BIG UPDATE! - More Fun!
Hats off for the new monomulator 1.0
Bravo - Bravissimo
Cheers
About the desync with the apc40 sometimes, which begins behavioring heratictly, I think I have a clue.
The other day, I was playing with laptop + apc40, after a while I started editing with mouse [forgetting the apc40]
And it seems that if I don't use apc40 but mouse and keyboard [leaving apc40 connected] it will bug the apc40 behavior if you start editing for a certain amount of time.
I may be wrong, but it slapped me in the face and I immediatly linked that with the monomulator process[previous version 0.92].
Well Now I will try the new monomulator with joy, i've just watched the two vids, impressive work!

Re: Monome Emulator for APC40- BIG UPDATE! - More Fun!
Mike: Wow, very nice!!!
I'm on XP, Monomulator 1.0 works beautifully.
One question about the slider-page: no matter what I try,Live just receives channel 11, CC 0 messages (on all rows)
I reserved midiyokes channel 4 for this, changing the channel/CC numbers in monomulator has no effect.
I suppose I am doing something wrong here, any ideas ?
Thanks again!!!
Best, Bert

Re: Monome Emulator for APC40- BIG UPDATE! - More Fun!
I passed hard time on setting this with midi yoke on windows XP
It worked well at first and then not working anymore, I can't even get the Red Square window for the apc function on Live.
Damn it_ I start hating windows seriously
Oh and no MAX msp midi ports for the runtime????
PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE make a nice tuto for windows users.
No IAC, NO midi ports from max, need a solid tip here

Re: Monome Emulator for APC40- BIG UPDATE! - More Fun!
@ mike:
wow, what a mighty app!! thanx, thanx, thanx!! for me you're the hero of 2009!
@ chat_fou:
i think your config is correctly (same settings than in the toutorial video). what i figured out: try to click the "mode-select-button" twice (shift+pan+pan, or shift+send a+send a, etc.).
this will refresh the area of the 8x5 buttons and the "arm-track" row correctly.
BUT: the button rows of the old "stop-clip", "select-track", "mute-track", "solo-track" buttons behave still buggy (on my system: mac osx 10.5.8, ableton 7.0.16)
don't know if these are bugs too, or my settings are wrong (what i don't believe). but anyway, maybe it helps:
- when i'm switching often between this 4 new modes (normal, monome, contoller, keyboard), my audio is crackling/knacker sometimes.
- when i want to contol more than 2 faders (for example) at the same time, the 3., 4., 5., etc. fader has a big delay/latency.
- the apc is crashing down very often (the red square disappears and the standard apc functions (faders, encoders, etc.) will have no control anymore). in my case when i'm activating the blue midi-mapping, then deactivate the midi-mapping - the red square (and the controls) disappears and i have to restart everything.
- the refreshing button light thing (see above)
mike, this is not a "to do list", but maybe it will help if you like to eliminate some bugs.
anyway a big THANX for your great work!

Re: Monome Emulator for APC40- BIG UPDATE! - More Fun!
Mike,
Could it be that Live 8.05 throws a spanner in the works ?
On XP I seem to have lost the 'normal' apc40 page / functionality now....
Best,
Bert
UPDATE: sorry, after some restarts, it got it working again.
Now, if I only could get those fader rows to work with different CC's
(see earlier post)
Thanks for all your work!

Thanks for pointing this out. This has been fixed redownload.Friedrich wrote: One question about the slider-page: no matter what I try,Live just receives channel 11, CC 0 messages (on all rows)
Yes this is a workaround. you should not have to do this though on 8.05. you should just have to hit the buttons once.mai wrote:

I haven't tried with Live 7. Ill try to look into it.mai wrote: BUT: the button rows of the old "stop-clip", "select-track", "mute-track", "solo-track" buttons behave still buggy (on my system: mac osx 10.5.8, ableton 7.0.16)
Yes I experience this too, with the apc in it's normal mode, meaning no hacks going on. I *think tis is an ableton problem. usually with larger sets its more apparent.mai wrote: - when i'm switching often between this 4 new modes (normal, monome, contoller, keyboard), my audio is crackling/knacker sometimes.
I cant reproduce this in Live 8. again, don't have 7 installed. do you have slider time set to a long time?mai wrote:

I think the apc scripts have been much improved since Live 7.0.16. Over the course of updating from Live 8 beta to the current version, I have seen many changes. Even from 8.04 to 8.05 there have been a few changes that made me go back and make different ways to deal with the apc. Maybe those changes were not added to the Live 7.0.16 apc script? Id say, download live 8.05 demo and grab the apc40 script, ( make a backup of the 7.016 script first ) then drag the 8.05 script to the remote scripts folder in the Live directory. maybe it'll work?mai wrote: - the apc is crashing down very often (the red square disappears and the standard apc functions (faders, encoders, etc.) will have no control anymore). in my case when i'm activating the blue midi-mapping, then deactivate the midi-mapping - the red square (and the controls) disappears and i have to restart everything.

@Hermanus
unfortunately I don't have a windows installation right now, but with MIDIyoke, just substitute the names I have in the tutorial with the MIDI yoke port numbers. for instance:
Apc emu to Live -> MIDI yoke 1
Apc emu from Live -> MIDI yoke 2
from MaxMSP 1 -> MIDI Yoke 3
from MaxMSP 2 -> MIDI Yoke 4
that should get you going. Port numbers/names are arbitrary, as long as the ports are going to the right places and are consistent it will work fine.
Re: Monome Emulator for APC40- BIG UPDATE! - More Fun!
Thanks a lot Mike,
I did it with midiYoke, and almost everything worked.
In fact, The apc Function is still missing.
I got faders, Keyboard and monome function available but I've seen in the max window that apc40 is not well recognized by Max when I first launch ableton live. mme/midi access problem
If I launch Max first, it's ok but as soon as I run live, it makes max crashing.
I will try again... probably my own mistake
Maybe here:
1. power up apc40
2. opening Ableton Live
3. monomulator

Re: Monome Emulator for APC40- BIG UPDATE! - More Fun!
Weird. but make sure you have the ports right. also, make sure you don't have any midi feedback. so, to do that make sure that whatever yoke ports you are using as your control surface are not outputting as track or remote.Hermanus wrote:Thanks a lot Mike,

Maybe here:

3. monomulator
lastly in max go to Options/MIDI setup and
make sure:
whatever MIDI Yoke port is emulated to Live is off as input in max
and
whatever MIDI Yoke port is emulated from Live is off as output in max
lastly, I think i remember with win XP that if one app was using a MIDI port, you couldn't use it in another. so make sure in Live's MIDI prefs the APC40 is not used at all. so, deselect all the entries refering to the actual apc40 hardware.
lemme know if you get it cleared up
