I like Impulse and the drum rack but they are a little bit limited.
For example I'd like to be able to add FX and processing to each individual part of the drum kit.
I figured a way to do this by loading up multiple instances of Impulse and splitting the midi
info on to separate tracks but this gets messy and I cant figure a way to save all those instances
of Impulse as one kit that I can load up whenever I want.
I'm new to Live so I've probably overlooked a much simpler way to have the control and recall that I want.
If anyone can suggest a better way to set up a kit, maybe add some verb to the snare and some compression to the ride
without editing the source samples I would be really grateful.
I can't help feeling that I'm failing to harness the full power of these excellent tools.
Cheers
Whats the best way to build and save drum kits?

you can quite simply use drum racks, which use simpler or sampler (lives to samplers)
load in your samples and save.
If you want to use impluse:
create a inst rack with 10 impluse.
Add your drum samples 1 per impulse. This way you can add effect separately .

when you load a sample in a drum rack, the sample is loaded in a simpler, just put your efx after the individual simpler
if you want to layer several drum hits on one pad
load an instrument rack onto a drum rack pad
then you can add multiple samples to the instrument rack and have separate efx on each individual drum hit
all on one drum rack pad

Thanks emef,
I think I understand what your saying but it would be easier to see it in the flesh.
Would it be possible for you to send me a file with an example kit?
I know this is a lot to ask so don't worry about telling me to get lost.
Cheers

drag a sample into the drum rack... and double click the pad.. it will open the "chain" that the simpler resides with the sample.
