Amount of time to install 8.0.5
Re: Amount of time to install 8.0.5
My computer has been going for an hour now, guess I won't be making any music today WTF?
When I install the betas it takes like 10 minutes, some major operation is going on like WHAT?
Not sure I'm happy about this.

Re: Amount of time to install 8.0.5
Just to clarify. My installed damn quick, like a minute. What is taking the 5+ hours is the install of the live packs. I have a bunch of puremagnetik, togeo, and of course all the live stuff like EIC 2 and drum samples.
Another grievance of mine is why is it that when I updated from 8.04 to 8.05 it did not just overwrite 8.04? Instead it installed another instance of ableton and I could run both. This is not good in my eyes cuz I was not sure what to do with 8.04. I uninstalled it but this seems risky in my eyes as I am now unsure if live 8.05 will see where all the live packs are. Why can it not just trace the dependencies from 8.04 and use those rather than reinventing the wheel which is what it is doing!!
Damn, this is as frustrated as I have ever been with the program!! Now I can see what the windows people have to deal with.

Re: Amount of time to install 8.0.5
Yes - was a right pain!
Had a remix to finish yesterday eve, so I get home from work and find the beta I was using had expired
So next 30 mins downloading the 805 suite and nearly an hour+ for the install and pack updates etc.
By this time im in a near panic as not much time left for a deadline - not nice!
So then I run 8.0.5 and to my utter horror it want to re-authorise so now Im pannicking about whether I have any auths left
Thanksfully had an auth left, so I load the project, an in the 2c aether reverb - computer stiffs - completely!
Reboot..., wait load up project, stick in a sylenth1 plugin, make some noise, drag in an EQ8 and Live crashes - nice - just what I need with only a couple of hours to go to inspire confidence
So about 3 hours after getting home I finally get to goto work when definately not in the mood to do so anymore.
On the plus side - it did seem to load up alot quicker than the betas.

Re: Amount of time to install 8.0.5
I did not have any 8.0.5 betas installed. And the only three updates applied were latin percussion, live 8 library and live 8 lessons...
Not sure how long it took as I went to bed after two hours and it was done in the morning...
Luckily this only needs to be done once!

Also, if you want to just run the update and go off for a few hours, keep in mind that at about 16% of the update process, you'll get a dialog box asking if you want to overwrite files. If you don't respond, it just sits there. So at least respond to that before you go to bed, or when you wake up in the morning, you'll be sitting at 16%.

Aaaaargh! It is currently still installing after at least half an hour. Incredibly irritating as I don't own the suite. I am increasingly worried that Ableton is becoming more like Steinberg in it's corporate policy.
I am working with a world famous music star this week and am using Live as my DAW. I am sick of the stability issues I am encountering thus far with version 8 and am hoping that the new version will be more stable. I only have a tiny window of an hour this evening to test out the new version. This isn't going to happen. I simply think this isn't good enough and am going to write an email of complaint.

Re: Amount of time to install 8.0.5
got any plans to move to Live 8?? it'd make collabing a bit easier. no worries, working in 7 is a trip... "OK, group and color the tracks... shit, where's the menu... <click> <click> ummmm. oh yeah."H20nly wrote:So far its taken me a little over 6 months... Still working on it...
dunno if you'd get THAT much out of it. I had to check, hence the 'Live 8 features' thread bump.

Re: Amount of time to install 8.0.5
I don't get it, every time I got a new beta it would be 10 minutes to be up and running - why does it have to be so long (it just finished was probably 1.5 hours at least!)
Why do all the Livepacks and presets need to be installed over the old ones?
Why?
Why?
WHYYYYYYY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Okay... I'm game. Cheaper than a new laptop and has the potential to be used a lot more.Tone Deft wrote:got any plans to move to Live 8?? it'd make collabing a bit easier. no worries, working in 7 is a trip... I just looked at the boxed upgrade to 8. Do you have the Suite? If so, tell me more about Collision and Latin Percussion...
Also... http://www.ableton.com/pages/upgrade is this right? The way its worded is fuckin with me a bit. I have Live 7 Suite.
