trouble with Reaktor AU in 4.1?

Post by bencodec » Mon Feb 14, 2005 6:09 pm

anyone else noticing reaktor crashing in 4.1.2 when it's run as a AU? the VST seems to run ok, but the AU has brought my machine down 3 times now.

yes I had the same problem with live4.1 (demo) and reaktor as au.
now I am using 4.0.3 and it's ok.

but as a new mac user I don't understand why there are vst AND au versions of my plugins?
which should I use?

Because there are AU's on mac with no VST version, and VST's with no AU version, Live can read both! :)

I tend to use the VST versions of Native Instrument stuff when I can, simply because the VST version is a simpler port for them from the windows version. Reactor was windows to begin with I'm pretty sure? just like Absynth was a mac developed synth, and ported to PC.

The reason why you have both is that Apple's decided that AU's the future on Macs. I could be wrong here, but I think the latest OSX versions of Logic can ONLY use AUs unless you use a VST/AU adaptor.

Machinesworking's observation about NI VSTs is halfway correct; Reaktor was ported from PC. The only two plugins that NI sells that were Mac>PC ports are Absynth and Spektral Delay. I'm not sure about the easier port in the case of VST, though. The main problem with AUs is that it's a new standard, and everyone's implementing it a bit differently.

but in general I still don't know if there are any advantages of using AU when you have both versions...
