If I was a club owner, I'd feel a little weird about spending all of the $$$ to open the club, staff the club, outfit it with a $50,000 sound system, and charge my customers $10 to get in the door, all so they can hear compressed music files from some lazy DJ's keychain thumb drive. One of the DJ's responsibilities is to sound good. I think a system like this will encourage laziness.

I mean, sure, modern ease is a great thing. But, if it's too much trouble to bring your own laptop to a club, is the DJ going to feel like it's too much trouble to push envelopes and make a slamming mix?

I mean, sure, my post is bullshit and carries no meaning, but, I ask, why? This device is a CD player. No one buys those anymore. It's 2009. It's all about mixing real vinyl with Serato's DVS. Ableton/Serato collab FTW.

In all honesty, looking at the CDJ-2000 with their big LCD screens just looks like a chore to me. They look like they were designed to inspire stress in DJ's. "Oh I have to learn what this button does... Oh I need to be industry standard so I'll spend $4000 on CD players that are designed to not be CD players so I know what I'm doing when I finally get in a real booth..."

Seeing a real turntable spinning just puts me in a good mood somehow. They put my mind at ease. It's all personal opinion, and again I reiterate, my post is total bullshit. I'm just sayin'. I'm not just a fanboy who owns Scratch Live and Ableton Live. I just think Serableton for the win!

...that is, if Scratch4Live doesn't crash. If it crashes then we'll be stuck with Pioneer.

I had final scratch for years, got it not long after it came out.
the nail in the coffin was playing a gig where 2 other dudes turned up with a lil cd wallet (as opposed to my laptop, cables, ground lifts etc. Slotted cd in and rocked it. . .

no more trouble with dust on vinyl (sometimes coming from the ceiling in some places. . .) Vibration, setting up etc.

I really dont like dvs's, that's personal however. i'd much rather rock up with a 10 gig usb stick and have my set ready to rock. This looks like it might actually be the missing link. . .

Although almost 6k for 3 makes me think that for the added functionality then one would be best off getting tracktor or serato and using it with cdj's.

I have a pathological dislike of vinyl these days. And i don't have a sore back from gigs. . . Hmmm

Got two CDJ's gathering dust, yet the technics 1210's still have pride of place, i love whatr i can do in ableton and with the APC, i can't see me puttin 3k down on a pair of these when they do nothing i can't do already (and have the benefits of a laptop) and don't offer the tactile response of vinyl!

Pioneer always makes solid decks but their flagship deck has always been way too expensive and you can pull off a perfectly great set with one of the lower end models.

you see how different the view on this is, i think 95% of all DJs worldwide suck extremely our days, and it has zero to do with vinyl or not! It's about that hardly anyone has skills and passion anymore and by skills i don't mean beatmixing with platters...

I for example could puke if see DJs still playing vinyls imean puke over their decks and then hit them so hrad in the face that the nose exits the back of the skull.

use modern technology to the fullest, but with soul and passion, the soul and passion is what's missing.
and don't give me the crap that vinyl sounds better

besides, i don't know how many times you play a week? and travel?
For me traktor was a bliss after lugging around 2 crates of records 2-3 times a week across europe, when i still actively dj-ed, and every single item, even a cable less or more makes a difference in my book.

When still had my club the soniclab in bratislava... all of the international traveling DJs thanked me a lot for having one of the best designed and equiped DJ booth they ever entcountered and that they had to bring way less lugage... that did not had any effect on there performance, if you suck, you suck, vinyl, CDs, laptop whatever...

In the end only reason to get one is if venues start to get them and I need to know how to make the most of them.

You know I wasn't going there! I have no interest in the "what sounds better" discussion.

In fact, having a frank discussion about DJing is impossible. There are so many different styles of music that people can DJ that it makes it impossible to simply discuss it.

For example, there are some nightclubs in my neighborhood that have big sound systems with lots of lights and fog machines. On the weekends people travel from all over to go to these clubs wearing their fanciest clothes. DJ's spin all night long, scary looking girls wear glitter bikini tops, and the next day the sidewalk smells like rotting margarita mix.

I live nearby. I love electronic music and DJing. Yet I avoid these clubs like the plague. I walk a specific route home as to avoid getting close to these clubs. To me, clubs like this are the gates of hell.

I'm more into bar DJ's who play a good set and get people dancing uninhibitedly. I like DJ's who play all kinds of differnt genres of music, but make it all work. I like DJ's who take chances. To me, sticking to a BPM and a key and a genre gets really boring after 10 minutes.

So I cannot have a frank discussion on the topic. I can say that I will not be investing in a pair of CDJ-2000's, 900's, or any deck with an optical drive.
