Re: Used to - Need a laptop... and still not a Mactop...
So what's the price tag on that beast, H2?
Re: Used to - Need a laptop... and still not a Mactop...
The actual unit itself was 1180.00 USD They're having a pretty good sale this month, with that plus the coupon codes, according to Lenovo's site, I saved just under 700 bucks.
I paid about 70 bucks extra to get the Vista Ultimate license, have it downgraded to XP Pro and then when 7 is fully released I can upgrade for no additional cost. That actually was the final nail in the coffin during my reasoning... I figured I get to make the switch to 7 (Ultimate) skip Vista and in doing so effectively stay ahead of or at least hugging the curve. I'm game.

Re: Used to - Need a laptop... and still not a Mactop...
Sooooo.I jus grabed one of those Dell Studio Desktops wit the I7 processor and 6 gigs. But it came with vista 64 bit and may not run with XP I was told due to drivers. Got the free upgrade to win 7 a month from tomorrow but what the EFF do I do in the meantime? ALSO, I just upgraded to suite 8 and wondering if I should load it on this cpu if I am going to install a new os? It says I can only used my new suite 8 can only be installed on 2 cpu's will it still count as 1 if the os is changed? I wanna be able to use it on tha new desktop and a new laptop I pick up soon. I'm also using the Mbox2 mini. Any input on drivers for this until win 7 arrives and Moe important any info on mbox2 with win 7? I stumbled upon a site for win 7 beta where users say ableton is running very well in win 7. Ill Link it when I'm at home cpu.

I'm pretty sure they mean 2 cpu's at once, so no they wouldn't count that one against you.. but I'm not sure.
And as for what to do, just use vista until you get 7. It's not that bad.

Re: Used to - Need a laptop... and still not a Mactop...
Just go through the steps to optimize vista for audio and you'll be fine. After shutting a lot of the crap off I find that it's just as user friendly and stable as xp ever was.

I HATED when I would go to install my Trigger Finger/Axiom drivers and they would come up saying it's not compatible with this OS. and M-AUDIO wanted you to go ahead and install everything like it was totally fine..
Re: Used to - Need a laptop... and still not a Mactop...
Hence the XP downgrade to 7 Ultimate upgrade option
makes me smile
unless I'm forced to, I won't be migrating to 7 uber fast
research is in order
meantime, XP works. known good.

Re: Used to - Need a laptop... and still not a Mactop...
Thanks for the input fellas. Yea vista seems to be working but jus finally getting everything loaded up.
I am having a problem with my axiom 49 though. It works fine on my xp set up but axiom/m audio site says there is no driver for vista its jus plug and play. Yet when I go to the midi pref's it wont let me set it up. Lets me choose axiom 49-61 then the input window wont highlite, just the output and the control surface drop downs.
The midi ports is only giving me one line for outputs ms gs wavetable synth.
Anyone see what Im overlooking?
Thanks in advance.
AND JUST FYI, IF ANYONE HAS A PROBLEM WITH A M BOX 2 MINI, YOU HAVE TO RUN IT IN ADMIN MODE TO SET THE DRIVER TYPE TO ASIO AND TO INITIALIZE THE M BOX 2 MINI, AT LEAST THATS WHAT I SAW ON THE DIGIDESIGN SITE. AND IT SEEMS TO WORK...
EXCUSE THE CAPS AND SHEET IM ON A POT OF COFFEE, LMAO

What happens if you do a full reboot with the Axiom on?
